...apparently is considered by some--in the age of texting and email-- as merely an art form. They argue that it's a waste of time to teach it in schools when they could be teaching something else (like, let me see...spelling perhaps? Or grammar? Or are those also just antiquated concepts that need to be dropped?)

:::sigh:::

Really?

Went to visit some friends tonight and they showed me this curious site that will analyze your writing and tell you who you write like. There were some surprising moments and quite a lot of laughter over this.

My results!

For a slash Forever Knight/Highlander crossover:

I write like
Margaret Atwood

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

For an Alias Smith and Jones story (a western):

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

And for my fav SG1 story:

I write like
Kurt Vonnegut

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

That's all pretty ambitious. Too funny.

What was especially funny was the looks on J and P's face when they had some of their stories come up Stephenie Meyer. Confused, hurt, shocked and/or robust laughter. P had one of her AS&J's stories come up as Mark Twain which was pretty cool (and helped her get over the Meyer comparison.)

I occasionally post photos here and when I do, the photobucket stats show about 90 views from LJ and about 20 from DW. That's usual and expected.

Remember that piece of Salish art by Joe Wilson? The Thunderbird catching a killerwhale that frightened my cat? That gets about twenty hits a day, as did the screen cap of my desktop with all the trees (and the steps that lead to an altar where Jack deflowered Daniel in an unwritten amtdi story.) The art one was posted over a month ago so why are those two generating a daily interest?

Then, out of nowhere, this photo got 600 views in two days from layitlow.com, which is a lowrider site. How odd is that?

That photo was never posted anywhere, it was just included in the varmit photo album so someone was browsing and decided to share with lowriders. Huh.

Also, someone on myspace.com likes this one:

I find it very odd.

Jeeze, how many times do we have to have this conversation?

So, in 25 words or less:

WHY, as a writer in a tight knit community, would you WANT a non-consensual reader? For god's sake, grow up!

It's been a couple of days now since he's passed on and it's still a shock. I only knew him casually from the Slashbasher meetings and from his fun panels at the conventions and yet feel his loss acutely. He was vivacious, confident, always a lot of fun and perhaps the most pertinent thing from a fannish pov was that he was incredibly giving. He shared so much with us from his unique knowledge of how things really worked, to cluing us in on movies and tv shows that were worth watching--not to mention who was incredibly hot! In a culture that is based upon and depends upon sharing, his generosity was outstanding. He leaves a gaping hole in our community. I can't imagine how his family and close friends must be coping.

There's a dust up in lj land and I feel like sharing a few observations as I've worked both sides of the fence on occasion.

Because everyone has already done this:

Name your 15 absolute favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms.

01. Alias Smith and Jones - Heyes and Curry
02. Stargate SG-1 - Jack/Daniel
03. Stargate SG-1 - Daniel/Teal'c
04. Highlander - Methos/Duncan
05. Highlander - Methos/Kronos
06. Forever Knight - LaCroix vs Divia
07. Blake's 7 - Avon/Vila
08. Man From UNCLE - Napoleon/Illya
09. Boston Legal - Denny/Alan
10. The Avengers - John Steed/Emma Peel
11. Star Trek - Spock/McCoy
12. DS9 - Garak/Bashir
13. Brother Cadfael - Cadfael/Hugh Beringar
14. Criminal Minds - Morgan/Reid
15. Wiseguy - Vinnie/Frank

And there are pairings I read but I just don't go gooey inside when I think of them, like John/Rodney, Sam/Dean, Dean/Castiel. And some of the above, I don't want to read sex about but they were just dynamite on the screen together (Emma/John, LaCroix and Divia.) And of course, I picked gleaned twice from two fandoms, but those pairings had such different dynamics.

I quite like Criminal Minds but noticed a couple of the names must have been there as place holders until they renamed them something else.

Reid = the character is a walking repository of everything he's ever read.

Elle = was their mouthpiece for feminist views.

Biblical references go over my head for the most part but,

Aaron = he was Moses' brother right, and ended up in charge? That suits Aaron Hotchner, who is the team leader and took over for the previously exiled Jason Gideon.

Speaking of Jason Gideon, any clues in his name?

In SGA:

Sheppard = he's the leader that is responsible for the lost flock.

Ronon = I think that's an obviously reference to ronin, the Japanese samurai that had lost their masters.

Anyone have other names to add?
