SGA: Trio and other stuff
I got that scratchy throat thing three weeks ago and I still have lingering effects. I've a persistent mostly dry cough that I'm sick off, and nose congestion. How can my nose be both drippy and too dry? The humidity is only about 20% today and I woke up dry and gunky. I'm sick of being sick. Another stretch of days off gone with me simply sleeping a lot to try and get well quicker. Yeck, yeck, yuck!
Trio: I do love Rodney but yet I'm underwhelmed again. :::sigh:::
This is a forth in a set where the characters are isolated with three of four being only about two or three characters. Quarantine, Harmony, Outcast and Trio. I feel like these have been lite fare.
In Quarantine, we see the destruction of the Rodney/Katie relationship but since I was unaware they had a relationship, that didn't have much punch. We see Keller and Ronan nearly kissing. In Harmony we get Rodney and Sheppard but they interact more with the Harmony than each other. In Outcast we learn about John's family but since it contradicts what we already knew about him (no family on Earth--or was that fanon?) it just feels like Bridge fucking up another SG show. If you remember, that's what happened to SG1--they quite doing team shows, shows about exploration and settled for things like this. I think some of the writers have a hard time writing for more than two regulars at the same time....
Trio was much ado about nothing, really. I was relieved to see McKay was complaining about something substantial when he was holding on to the rope, bloodying his hands in the process. And then we get Keller pressing Rodney to buy her a drink in yet another flirtation or more for her. Two things here: McKay would have had pain meds on board--drinking is not advised with pain meds. She's a doctor, she should know better (yet again) and second, she shouldn't be putting the moves on folks in her sickbay. Change the gender: how about a male doctor that may ask you for a date or want to kiss you should you go to the sickbay--isn't that a bit unpleasant? Apparently she got her ethics watching Grey Anatomy? Each episode I find I like her less and less.
We've had her paired with Teyla, and with Ronon and now with Rodney and Carter; I think I can safely say if I was stranded with her I'd be too distracted by her hothouse flower ways to concentrate on getting unstranded. At least with Rodney we see someone who is afraid but yet rises to challenge anyway. I'll stop now because I know people like her... and believe me when I say I've self-edited my stronger feelings about her.
And the brilliant Colonel Carter falls on her ass three times? Christ! Gero wrote this but I'm puzzled. I don't know...maybe it's me. Maybe this script which is a good situation for characterization falls flat for me because I don't like Keller and I don't like Carter.
SGA casting news: I heard the term recently that Bridge was "stuntcasting" the SG1 people into SGA; what exactly does that mean?
And since I'm a SG1 fan and I saw my show hijacked again and again and again to set up SGA instead of being allow to pursue it's own mythology, pardon me if I don't feel guilty about the occasional SG1 actor showing up. Okay, except for Carter; Carter can suck the life out of any show.
So Daniel will show up for a two parter. Since he was responsible for finding Atlantis, I think if he shows up for an ep or two, he's owed that. And while I'd like to see Shanks go do something cool, I realize this is good choice for him right now. The actor strike is looming ahead this summer and he's been doing the house husband thing while the misses get her resume more current. Picking up a couple of weeks of work close to home is all good. And frankly, I don't see any compelling SGA arc that his appearance would derail. In fact, it'd be a good chance to get their team out and about again but since Bridge is passing on the team scripts, they'll probably put him with one other person. :::sigh:::
