TV recap

Boston Legal: Denny is suggesting swinging? Did I imagine it or was he also interested in a threeway with Alan? I was pretty impressed that the writers are pursuing this subject. And I was stunned that Shirley would fire Carl for dumping her.

Torchwood: "Meat." Can I just say ewwww? And the over-acting still makes me roll my eyes. I think Torchwood has the style and depth of a graphic novel.

SGA: "Midway." Loved Teal'c and Ronan together. Their rivalry was a bit overdone at first but it was for comedic effect and it was funny. There were plenty of potholes but I've pretty much given up on expecting a tight show here. Just entertain me for an hour if you can. And can they NOT give away a big reveal in the ad for next week's ep??!

I finally saw "An Inconvenient Truth." I tivoed and watched it the same night as I saw "Six Degrees." I'm sure I'll be dead of other causes before my heart will break at what will become of the Earth. I just wish the stupid, greedy, willfully ignorant people will suffer the consequences of their actions first.

Anderson Cooper 360 on Race, Gender and Politics. Very nice to hear someone exploring this aspect of the election. And after all the Hillary/woman bashing, I guess it's getting harder to ignore that it's happening so the more perceptive reporters are at least mentioning it. And the whole complex racial thing and courting groups as an entity was fascinating.

Politics in general. I see McCain and Clinton are finally calling Barak on the vague rhetoric. Personally I like to ask his supporters if they can describe his plans, or even him without using the words "change" or "hope" (I keep flashbacking on all the press in SG1 about Jonas Quinn and his "freshness.") Conversely, believe it or not, I find myself trying to educate those at work that Obama isn't a Muslin, and isn't a mole for Al-Qaeda. This is a fact they know as surely as they know Hillary is Bitch. Where does this shit come from?? Mind you, I do have issues with his church and their giving an award to Louis Farrakhan. Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright's views about whites and blacks I find very frustrating. Personally, I find my societal villains in the greed of the wealthy.

An interesting fact I heard tonight; Hillary wins in every group that make under $50,000 while Barak wins in every group over that amount.

Two things: one, go to Barak's and Hillary's websites. Find the issues page and compare their views on a topic or two that matters to you personally. Two: please watch the Democratic Debate this Thursday on CNN at 8 Eastern and 5 Pacific time.

Oh, I just saw on the news that Hillary wanted to debate Barak in Wisconsin but Barak's people say they've debated enough. Yeah, I can see that from their POV. I think he can only lose votes in a debate since she comes off as much more suitable for the job. I wonder why he agreed to Texas on Thursday?

And did any of you see that beautiful flyby of the shuttle/ISS on Saturday? And just 7 minutes before that, the defective spy satellite was visible, too. I actually had three people at work out there with me staring at the sky which was pretty good because it was cold and windy.

Oh, the three siblings were by tonight. There was a fourth a few nights ago and there was some growling and snorting and some half-assed displays of teeth before everyone settled down to eat. Strangely, I don't think it was their momma. They did know him, though. Huh.

Well, back to reading Lady Ra's "Wraith Killers." Ankh rec'ed it and it's a SGA/SG1 story. Slash, doncha know. :)

SGA: Yes, SO many plotholes, but a lot of fun. Loved the final scenes where Ronon was being interviewed. "Well, that's good enough for me!" I saw it coming a mile away, but still laughed out loud.

You know, they say you can never convince anybody of anything in politics. But I'm questioning Obama now myself, thanks to your pointing out his continuing generalities. Interesting statistic about the salaries. Obama--the Republican's Democrat? (g)

I just don't want more Clintons in the White House, dammit! (Then again, if I vote with my pocketbook, I really should. Bill liked us government employees.)

I did enjoy SGA, but when I started to point out the problems I realized I'd like it a lot less if I took the time to review. Best to just love the Teal'c and Ronon show. :)

Hey, I'm getting you to maybe possibly perhaps listen to Hillary a little? *g* I always think of your there'll never be a Clinton in the White House if I can help it! *g*

I was watching Michelle Obama on Larry King last night and had the thought, 'maybe it won't be so bad if Obama wins,' so I can appreciate waffling. Then I thought about his Immigration plans and wondered what the States were gonna do when he opens up the doors. At least Clinton promised state and local aid.

I just fear he's gonna do all sorts of social program givaways when obviously we just don't have the money right now. I really don't want my taxes to increase to pay for new programs to make the liberals feel good.

Yep, those years of prosperity in the 90s were painful, weren't they? *g* You should vote your pocketbook like the Republicans want you too. *g*

Hey hey! Less than two months now. Are you interested in eating that that restaurant Fuel that Mallousy is always raving about? We definitely will go to Horizons--maybe on Thursday? We'll have to check the schedule.

Ah, you've been looking at the Malozzi blog and thinking about food, too? If we only have the time to do one nice dinner, I'd prefer Horizons. Thursday sounds great to me! (I'd just as soon skip the Malozzi lovefest at Fuel. Though if Martin Gero is there, I'd like to see him.)

Fuel sounds interesting. http://www.zagat.com/verticals/PropertyDetails.aspx?VID=8&R=114063
I don't know if we'll have enough time, but maybe for lunch one day? As you say, schedule pending!

[identity profile] tenaya.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking lunch. And there is no way in hell I'd go to Fuel to watch Mallozzi hold court and watch his head inflate so much it'll exploded. Then the foodies can eat it. *g*

And I agree, if I only get one nice dinner, it's Horizons.

Yeah, the writers are REALLY pushing that envelope with Denny and Alan, what with the three-way/swinging and all. And the actress they got to play the sexually open plaintiff handled it just right, with complete frankness.

I avoided watching "Meat" Torchwood, and instead opted with the SO to watch the first two episodes of Ashes to Ashes, the Life on Mars sequel series. That was pretty good.

Torchwood - does come across as cartoony with the acting, specifically Jack's. He's too broad and needs to tone it down a whole lot.

[identity profile] tenaya.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Since they are all over emoting, I'm guessing it's a direction choice.

Ashes to Ashes. I missed hearing about this. Does it have the same characters from Life on Mars? I did enjoy that show but am not sure I understand the ending.

[identity profile] gategrrl.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if *anyone* understood the ending of Life on Mars. They left it very ambiguous.

Ashes to Ashes takes up (sort of) where LoM left off. Sam is not in this series, although he *does* have a large presence in the first episode. The other characters talk about him, mostly, and Gene has a newspaper clipping featuring a picture and a headline about Sam's memorial service.

I don't know how fans of the show are taking the information about Sam, but I guess they needed to move it on. What IS disappointing is that no one mentioned Annie. :-(

[identity profile] tenaya.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Annie is missing completely? And Sam died in the 70s? Oh my! Sam dies in the future to live in the past, but he dies in the past, too. That's harsh!

That's exactly how I felt about that episode, and how I feel about the show in general now, too. I'm seeing it more like Torchwood now--just a fun show to watch, but it's best not to think too much about it. *g*

And can they NOT give away a big reveal in the ad for next week's ep??!

I know! I don't really follow spoilers for this show, though I don't entirely avoid them either. I knew about this, but didn't know where/when/how and that might have been fun to discover within the context of the episode. Now the surprise is ruined for everyone who knew nothing about it, too.

I read Wraith Killers after seeing the rec, too. That was another fun story to read. :-) For whatever reason, I have not really been that interested in SGA/SG-1 crossovers before, but this one was cool.
