Political phone calls
Feb. 3rd, 2008 01:03 pmIn the last 24 hours, we've had 5 calls from John McCain, and none from anyone else. I live in David Dryer's district so, it's heavily Republican here, so I suppose that's why there's no Democratic calls. It's odd, though. I would have thought ol' Money Bags Romney would be hitting us hard, too.

Date: 2008-02-03 09:41 pm (UTC)I'm still waffling. Obama or Clinton. I probably won't know for sure until I actually make my mark.

Date: 2008-02-04 02:29 pm (UTC)Three were asking who I would vote for, and then who was my second choice. It ended with "paid for McCain for President."
The next one was a personal endorsement from someone I didn't know. He went on about what a wonderful person McCain was.
Another one was McCain himself explaining his priorities; he wants victory in Irag, will appoint only very conservative judges to the Supreme Court (that is code for getting rid of a woman's right to have an abortion), no new taxes.... Stuff like that.

Date: 2008-02-04 02:35 pm (UTC)I think I'm flip flopping on the Indian casino thing. I was gonna vote yes, but then I just saw a thing on the news where this gets California 18% of the net profits from gambling, while states like Florida get something like 50%. Big difference.
I was listening to the radio while in the car last night and they played a clip of Obama's wife slamming Hillary at UCLA. I really did not appreciate her language.

Date: 2008-02-05 02:26 am (UTC)18% is a very good "take" for the state, and allows the casinos to give better odds to the poor gambler. Pennsylvania's new casinos also take 50% and the payback percentages to the players are absolutely awful! So they lose quickly and don't bother to return. It's a case of killing the goose--it's better to take 18% of more revenue.
On the other hand, there are many gamblers who just go to the casinos expecting to lose their $50, or $100, or whatever. And they do.

Date: 2008-02-05 06:39 am (UTC)ETA: I don't pick up. I never answer my phone...well, pretty much never. *g* I let the answering machine get it no matter who it is, unless I know it's toolman calling and I recognize his number.
