Or Finally Finished with the Flist!
To recap my week, three icky days at work. Work, work, work. Only 15 minutes here and there to read fic on my PDA. Yes, I try to read smut at work. *G*
Friday was chores and tivo catch up. I have been enjoying the last few SPN (though someone needs to be fragged in the worst way.) SGA was entertaining again with a nice Rodney/Ronon moment. And I look forward to expansion on the surprise.
Friday night I spent search the net for info on FiOS/Tivo slash so to speak. Um...I totally missed the tivo deadline for transferring lifetime membership to a new tivo because FiOS said they didn't have service to the house. The more ads I saw, the more it bugged me because they dug up my front yard to put fiber optics in. Finally, I talked to real person and after a week she got back to us to tell us that our address had been miss-entered in their system and we can get FiOS. The consultant called when I was asleep and Mom signed us up--and she had no idea what she'd signed up for. I called up on Friday and found more info and it seems like a good deal. She said their DVRs were as good as Tivo so I ordered one of them and then spent most of that day and night researching what I'd ordered.
Saturday I awoke and knew the Verizon DVR wasn't gonna cut it. My query to the tivo community helped me to understand what I'd need to set things up the way I want them. And then I spent the rest of the day with my ol' SG friends and they showed me how to cut a song for a song vid. Yay!
Sunday I spent watching the Oscars, letting the Brindle the crabby tabby use my foot for a pillow and catching up on the flist. Yay! Oh, my friends gave me Xmas gifts from Hawaii. One thing was a little satchel of Maui Zowie catnip. Brindle has been licking that all night long, the little junky. He gets high and thinks it's kinda fun to make the monkey people squeal by using them scratching posts. :(
Tomorrow, I'll call Verizon and get that FiOS thing straight, I hope. It will bundle the Net at 15/2 Mbps, our phone (with unlimited calling) and the TV with HD (and all the channels I could ever want, even HBO and Showtime) for $149. That'll cut over $50/month off our bills. Supposedly everything will be fast and pretty and all that. But having to research all this has made me feel like I worked half the weekend. Now, I'm kinda grumpy. All snapdragony and PG-13. Shit, damn, hell! Where did my weekend go?! *g*
So, I think I'll risk my lower limb and sneak past the cat to go to bed and read Madhouse. At least I'll be warm there.
Oh! I just finished Torchwood's Adam. I really liked that one. Cool.

Date: 2008-02-25 07:34 pm (UTC)We don't need unlimited service on the phone, but hey, it's cheaper than our current service.
Our Satellite bill is $104; FiOS will get us all that we currently have plus some stations we don't have like Logo and O. And now that I've called and corrected my order to get the stuff I'll need to keep our Tivos, it will be $120/month for all three. Can't beat that with a stick! And the stuff I read on the net say the service is great. I'll let you know on that after it's up and running.
Verizon is the company that is wiring communities with this stuff so whether you get it depends on whether have they wired your community. Sometimes there are contracts between the community and different Internet or Cable services that prevent the full bundle from being offered.

Date: 2008-02-26 12:59 am (UTC)I had to watch that scene FOUR times! It was such a nice little moment. (Apparently Malozzi liked it, too, because he said it almost got cut for time, but he cut other things instead. Which seemed much less interesting.)
Whether you read with friendship glasses or slash glasses, it's sweet and funny. You could almost see the Jason in Ronon's grin, when he turned away to hide it from (the cameras) Rodney. And Rodney just kept looking at Ronon--I got the feeling he couldn't believe how well Ronon was doing with the kidding thing (gen) or he was thinking, "Awwww, co' mon, get me something!" (gen or slash).
As for fiberoptics--AT&T has their U-verse fiberoptic service available to my house. I've called to check it out and similar service would save me about $15, AND I would get the DVR which I don't currently have. AND I would be able to record up to three shows at one time (which I can't with Charter digital, and is why I'm still analog with two VCR's).
Why haven't I leaped at it? Because when AT&T was SBC (and they're still the same company just a different name), their billing and tech service just sucked! AT&T phone service was just fine, but my last couple years with them, they screwed up my billing at LEAST twice per year--including the FINAL bill they sent me when I moved to Charter cable telephone.
The problem is, Charter is absolutely horrible as well--and with them it's the service! My Internet cable goes out about once a month, usually after midnight, but not always. One whole day I was down--and I was supposed to be working from home! (Thank God I have a Blackberry and could do most of my work.) In 25 years of AT&T phone service in St. Louis, I had a phone problem ONCE. With Charter, I've had it for 16 months and I've had two outages.
*Sigh.* Really, I'm probably going to go with AT&T. I think I'm just waiting a couple more months so they'll hopefully have most of the bugs worked out of it--it's brand new here in my neighborhood--first offered last month. Also, they said it would take about 6 hours to set me up. Which makes sense to me, and I'm glad they didn't lie about that.
Ah, technology--it's all wonderful, when it works!
