We saw the 3 legged raccoon tonight. We figured he was the brother of Cutiepie and lost his leg when he was around one year old. It's amazing that he's been getting by for 3 years like this, and he hardly ever comes here for free meals.

Cutiepie and family is here. They were drinking and bobbing for grapes and such. I tossed out some peanuts and they all started in on them. Suddenly, with no reason that I could discern, Cutiepie headed up the berm to the elm tree and everyone hurried after her. When she got to the top of the berm, she sat down and started to shell a peanut she had taken with her, as did most of her kids. The last little guy that ran up the berm looked at everyone else eating their peanuts, turned, ran back down the berm, grabbed a peanut and ran back up to join the pack. Heh. I guess he didn't get the memo.

A sad thing occured concerning the big tub of water that the coons jump in. I found two dead little brown birds in it today. I guess they flew into it and couldn't get back out. I do have a proper bird bath that I've been filling up the last couple weeks as it's been so hot, so between that and the dog sized water bowls, they really didn't need go in the tub for water. How very sad though. I'm going to have to dump that water every morning and not refill it til dusk, and I've put a rock in the big water bowls. Overkill, probably, but that is just so sad. We've had this water tub in the summer for the raccoons for 3 or 4 years and nothing like this has happened before.
