I was thinking about Twila swearing upon her son that she was telling the truth while she was telling a lie. And I was thinking about the different types of lies people tell from white lies, to lies said with the intention to cause harm. And, of course everyone lies on Survivor.

I've decided that while our society has precious few taboos left anymore, perhaps lying while you swear on a family member is still one. There was a line there that most people felt, even though in reality a lie is a lie is a lie. I wonder if there is a latent fear that pairing a 'sin' with a someone we hold precious will call the wrath of God or tempt the Fates to punish that person for the 'sin.' Or is it that we lie and we function in an environment of lies and swearing on a loved one is the societal agreed on cue that people must believe the veracity of whatever statement is paired with it, and without that unspoken law, there is no safeword to fall back on and havoc ensues.

Anyway, I just found the whole idea curious, that a strong taboo exists about something everyone does to some level.

Desperate Housewives is becoming more fascinating and Boston Legal is still a kick in the pants funny. Both are recommended.
