Good Garage Guy Update.
Feb. 6th, 2005 04:30 amIt's been six days and there have been no more hang up calls (there had been 3-4 per day before) and no further phone calls or attempts to communicate with us. I am very appreciative of everyone's advice and vow to be firm and quite clear about forbidding any further communication if he should contact us again.
Technically, he owes us $300 as we put up half his rent money; hopefully he is feeling really slick that he won't have to pay us back. I had no expectation of being paid back and felt the $300 was well spent in getting him out of here. I feel that he was thinking that he could use that money as bait to keep this relationship open so he could get other monies out of us (sort of give me another $20 or else I might renig on the rest of the loan.) That game will only work if we care about the money. My beliefs are that one will eventually have to pay for one's mistakes and that was payment to get him to leave. No good deed goes unpunished, obviously.
The next big hurdle will be at the end of Feb. He moved into his basement on Dec. 19, and had first and last month's rent. If he was expecting us to pay his rent, he will probably be homeless again at that time. Since he is so good at manipulating people, perhaps he will start working on some other marks and get them primed to help/take care of him, sad to say.
