It's overcast and the first day of the Fair, AND admission is $1! A change of plans is in order I think! I promise to report back on whatever goofy or neat things I've bought. On the news, they just said the newest food treat is a deep fried avocado, which has got to be better than the deep fried oreo cookies, right? I tried the deep fried snickers bar last year and it wasn't as bad as I feared. I do want to get another of those collapsible plastic crates on wheels. I use that to haul in groceries and it's fantastic.

I'm going tomorrow! I plan to eat my way through the fairgrounds. I heard about the fried avocado too - let me know what you think, if you had one.

I did not have the deep fried avocado. I did have some of the best New England style clam chowder I've ever eaten. It was recommended by a vendor of Native American Fetishes while I was making my choices. It's at a Fish and Chips place at the intersection of Palm and Pepper. I also had an Indian Taco and a corn dog. I wanted ribs, but that did not work out.

Another cool thing I bought was a cat hair/lint remover. You know those sticky tape things you get for that purpose? They look like that but have a pink roller. The surface is silicone and when dry it's sticky. Once you have it all furred up, you just spin it in water and it rinses off, the surface becoming slick. Dry it off, it's ready to go again.

There was a one man band playing the guitar and singing the blues beside that fountain between all the vendor buildings. He was excellent and I bought a CD.

In the really huge vendor building, there was a great buy on 400 and 700 thread count cotton sheets.

And of course, I bought another of those wheeled fold up crates.

We got there around 2 and left when it closed at 11pm, and boy, are my dogs barking! The fireworks were kinda sparse at 10:10pm. The band was WAR, and while we didn't go to the concert, it was nice hearing the music. The place continues to spruce itself up so it's pleasant to walk around. Not enough benches though. I'm going to write them an irritated letter. They seem to be removing all permanent seating (save for the planters) and that makes it hard for the older folks who need to take frequent breathers.

We were thinking of going back on Sept 25 to hear ZZ Top. I've never seen them in concert.

I guess that's it. I hope you have a great time. You'll have to write a lj post about it.

No fried avocado - I was warned off. I did have fried apple, but it was distinctly mediocre. And an Indian taco ;-) as well as corn on the cob and assorted junk food and drink. I've had one of those pink sticky cat hair removers, but I have so *much* hair that I had to be washing it off every 5 mins! I use one of those rubber brooms - I've never had anything work better on cat hair than that. I've never had the chowder, but I always eat at that place when it's at the OC Fair. I love their fish & zucchini. I saw your carts. I also talked to the guy with the sheets, but I have a double bed, and he only had queen and king :-(

The one thing that irritated me was that I bought my ticket online "to save time" - and the Will Call line took forever. That was stupid!

See my LJ for further ramblings...

The rubber broom, I saw something like that at the fair; is that where you got yours? Little nubs instead of long straw?
I'd wondered about the fish at that place. I wanted some but I didn't want to find it was mostly breaded stuff. I'll have to try it next time.

I did buy one of those rubber brooms from the Fair once, but one that works the best of all is the "One Sweep" that they advertise on infomercials - they are two for $10/20, and you can also buy them at Bed, Bath & Beyond - that's where I got mine. Very cheap, and work amazingly well.

Coming to Robbie's?
