Home sweet home
Sep. 12th, 2006 12:11 amWe're back. We had a wonderful time and I'll post photos and tales later. All is well at the house; there were no emergencies and all the kitties were well taken care off. Brindle didn't try to escape and only nipped at the kitty sitter once when he got too affectionate. Scooter was well entertained and it sounds like Reggie was totally frustrated by how dense the kitty sitter was (he likes his food over *here* and just slide the bowl under his chin, please!) She wasn't following his orders apparently and he is making sure we are being retrained to his specifications. *g*
We got back on Saturday night, quickly watered some outside plants that were quite wilted (it's been hot here) and spent a lot of time petting the cats and filling up their love sponges. And napping, too. Between the heat and just catching up on my sleep, I've been napping a lot.
I spend a good deal of time doing the bills and opening mail. Oh joy, I've got a jury duty summons. I don't mind jury duty, but it's not set up for night shift workers. You call after 5pm to see if you're needed the next morning. Well, I'm stepping out the door to start my 12 hour shift at that point and it's too late to call in. Am I supposed to stay awake for 24 hours?
I also called up my two good friends that like to bake and asked them about their ranges and their opinions on what is necessary in ovens. We've also spent a lot of time on the net researching thing. I quite liked a Frigidaire on paper, but the man in the shop today really dissed Frigidaires. I wonder if he was being truthful or just spinning us towards the GE Profiles (which were our second choice anyway.) Anyone have any oven/range stories they'd like to share? The convection feature seems tasty....
I've also spent a few hours watching the NBC programming about 9/11. There is no way I'd watch that ABC crap. The show on the firefighters was very powerful and profound. To see those faces as they reacted to what was happening. It's almost too much. Honestly, I don't have the words to express myself but I did want to say this day wasn't ignored, but it's all too massive for me.
Interestingly enough, I have Craig Ferguson on and his opening monologue was about 9/11. He told of where he was on that day and the memorial service Warner Brothers later had. How they had brought this massive flag to the back lot and clipped it into place for the service. It was a hot day and they huddled under the flag for protection, but a Santa Ana started to blow the clips started to pop off. He made an allegory that the ill wind may pop the clips but the flag was still there. It was very moving. And now he has on the new anchor that was on CNN that day for 15 hours. He really does have a quality show.

Date: 2006-09-12 10:40 pm (UTC)The stuff I was reading said third element convection ovens were better than the ones that just fanned the air about. The one we're thinking of getting is the latter because of other nice features and price, but I wonder if there really is that much difference functionally. Both should be better than the conventional oven we currently use. I'd love to know if she had any opinions on Frigidaires, or other brands -- pro and con.
Thank you!

Date: 2006-09-13 10:59 pm (UTC)I don't think office buildings are a good idea however.People need somewhere to go and visit, leave mementos and grieve. The little museum they have now is good, with all the stuff from the fire engines, buildings just as it was. But the skyline is all wrong now, and a tall something is in order I think.
