The bottom line? Everything is okay, finally.

Last Monday and Tuesday, Brindle was so sweet and affectionate, wanting to be held and was quite the little papoose kitten; he really seemed to want to change. Wednesday night he didn't want to come in and he didn't meet me when I came home from work in the morning. He's very capable but he's also never out of sight for more than an hour or two. We thought the worst, looking for signs of foul play and felt grief stricken. Nearly 48 hours later, he showed up, healthy and hungry, his fur smelling dusty...the sort of smell that lingers in garages. We're guessing he got locked in somewhere. We're very happy to have him home. He's been papoose kitty again but we're just thankful to be able to hold him again.

Last night, Mom was surprised to find she was passing blood when she peed, enough to freak her out. Since it was Saturday night, she's 74, diabetic and with newly diagnosed renal disease, we didn't feel it was wise to wait until Monday to make an appt with Kaiser. So, we went to the ER, spent 6 hours waiting before they took us into a room, then spent another 3 hours staring at the walls in a cubicle before they finally decided it was a UTI. We got her prescription filled and returned home 11 hours after we'd left, exhausted. It was 11am but there was nothing to do except go to bed, the day a total waste... While she had started to feel poorly while we waited, she is feeling better now. We're going away for nearly a week on later this week so we really felt it was important to jump on this asap.

I had said I'd write a SG1 story for a charity zine but events have delayed and finally prevented me from doing this. I was looking forward to spending these three days off finishing the story. I have to face the fact that it's just not going to happen though I'll try to write some more tonight if I'm not too tired. We're just still wrung out from waiting about all that time. Oh boy, if you could have heard the commotions for all those hours. People constantly throwing up, or frequently coughing up lumps of please-don't-let-me-see-what, or that poor young lady sobbing for hours like her heart was broken (all in Spanish so we'll never know what had happened.) I'll feel lucky if we don't come down with something!

Also, I unfortunately tweaked my knee when I was searching for signs of what had happened to Brindle. The soil on the hill is soft and loose and my foot suddenly sank in past my shoe, twisting my knee somewhat. We're going up north in a week and have booked three nights in Yosemite Valley. Looks like they've had snow, too. I foresee me not doing much walking about, sadly.

And the important things in life are to have good health and to be able to hug the ones you love. The rest of it will work itself out.
