My boring life
Jul. 4th, 2007 02:24 amIt's been over a week and not much has happened of note. Here are the boring details:
I'm going up the coast in two weeks so I got my 60,000 mile service done a bit early. A bit of an ouch but that's a milestone service. Car is very happy and looking forward to a nice run. We've decided to take HWY 1 up to Big Sur, even though I know it will be congested with motor homes and rude cyclists. I will not let them make me crazy, I will not let them make me crazy....
I went for a overnight stay with friend in Lompoc. A really nice town and the weather is wonderful, cool and breezy. We returned to traffic jams, heat and smog. It's made me start wondering what I need to do to retire ASAP! I had a good time, btw. :)
Um, Brindle is good. He was under Mom's bed for five days, then out for two, then exhausted from the heat and now he's back in for five more. He's not been under the bed though, he's been lounging in front of the computer and asking to be told how pretty he is and how much we love him.
It's been over 100 for the past few days and will continue that way. Not happy at all.
I've been buying things on the net. A Braun electric water kettle and a Braun coffee maker. Both are black. They are replacing things that barely work and need to throw out.
The Dead Zone -- Okay, kind of a different show now. Not quite as good, but I'll keep with it for a while. I still can't get over Stillson being a good guy.
Doctor Who -- Okay, that was different. CGIing the Doctor? It feels like they've reached a new plateau for effects/possibilities and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I still love Simm's Master. I thought the Tinkerbell solution was a bit twee. Jack was not needed in this one at all, more's the pity. I really like Martha and understand why she's leaving but I think the show will be poorer for it. I've heard the new casting news and am WTF? over it. Maybe they felt that too many people love the Doctor and that needs to change for a while? This ending was like watching an Olympic gymnast do a powerful, strong routine then barely stick the finish with a wobble and bobble. Sometimes powerful plots and characters seem to paint the writer into a corner it's hard to get out of with dignity?
Varmit report -- still have little skunks being bossy out there. The lone raccoon still comes by every night. I'm going through large bags of feed quite quickly, and having to replenish the water twice a night.
Oh yeah. I have to work tomorrow night. Some nut case a block away was setting off skyrockets tonight. Lord knows what he'll do tomorrow. A block away, and in my back yard is a tinder dry hillside. I'm going to have to ask Mom to try to monitor the front and the backyard or just call the cops if it gets scary. This guy did this last year and I sat outside for safety as I really dislike turning in the neighbors but if it gets out of hand....

Date: 2007-07-04 11:22 pm (UTC)Dead Zone - I'm not so sure they're trying to paint Stilson so much as a good guy. He seems to still have some kind of agenda. He may not, at the moment, be on a collision course to nuke DC (yes, I'm ducking now), but there are a lot of things he could still mess up.

Date: 2007-07-05 12:16 am (UTC)Stilson. Wasn't he a psychopath before? Now he's maybe like a normal politician. Maybe you're all right and he'll revert later. It wouldn't surprise me.

Date: 2007-07-05 12:38 am (UTC)I think Stilson was being managed. At least that's what they implied most of last season. Personally, I wish they'd kept him the psychopath as opposed to making him a victim.

Date: 2007-07-05 03:15 pm (UTC)It kind reminds me of the Star Trek villains. Klingons, Borg -- they started out being villains but ended up on the crew.
In any case, I've cease to take Stilson seriously.
And now Sarah has moved into Johnny's house. :::sigh::: I think what bothers me is that there has been 5 years of backstory, the careful exploration and progress of the relationships and now, ta da! We're just expected to ignore all that.
