...I'll be an old fart. *g* Yes, a milestone birthday is bearing down upon me. I knew I didn't want to be in a position to be abused at work (I can get bitchy when tormented so why subject them or me to that?) so, since it's summertime and the heat is on, it seemed wisest to go to where it's cool and green. So, I'm off to Big Sur. Ancient redwood groves, crashing surf, otters frolicking in the kelp beds, good food, drinks with umbrellas, and sunsets into the Pacific. I've printed out a list of shops, and a couple of bakeries each in Carmel, Monterey and Santa Cruz (I dearly miss the wonderful bakeries of Europe and Britain.) I've even figured out where I can pick up Deathly Hallows on Saturday. *g*

Some friends I see yearly at MediaWest have a small wager on the book. Ten predictions each; whoever gets the most wrong gets to buy everyone else a dessert. My list is:

1) Harry Lives.
2) Voldemort dies.
3) Snape's allegiance really is to Dumbledore.
4) Snape lives (actually, he'll probably die but if I say he lives,
maybe he will?)
5) Dumbledore makes an appearance somehow. Either he resurrects or
communicates to Harry somehow.
6) Harry's scar is one of the horcruxes.
7) Draco eventually denies the Deatheaters. I won't say he becomes good,
but he is not determined anymore to be a Deatheater.
8) Someone will give their life to save Harry, and they will do it out
of love.
9) That someone will be a Weasely, probably Ron. Maybe he'll save Ginny
at the same time?
10) Percy Weasely will be manipulated to do/arrange something horrific,
and the shock of it will bring him back into the family fold.

I'm almost packed (just need to pull a few selections OUT of the suitcase.) The only chore left is to vacuum so the kitty nanny won't be too horrified. Brindle is in the house somewhere...I think. God, he's a strange cat. Scooter is so terribly thin and I won't be surprised if he passes while we're away. The varmits are having fun. The big skunk that liked to chase Brindle around was slapping his front feet at a wary and confused baby coon. Momma had to come up and provide back up (don't even THINK you are going to harass my child!) Well, time to go get my beauty sleep. Ha ha ha!

Oh, can I play?

My ten predictions are:

1) Neville kills Voldemort.
2) Ron does something that saves Hermoine's life
3) Snape turns out to be a good guy
4) Harry gets to talk to his father somehow
5) The twins come up with some key magical device that helps save the day
6) Harry survives and finds happiness with Ginny
7) Draco turns on his father
8) Snape dies (I want him to live, but I can't see it happening)
9) Neville dies, probably sacrificing himself to achieve point 1 (he turns out to be the real hero of the story)
10) Harry becomes the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, ending the annual turnover of teachers because he remains in the post until he retires a long, long time from now

Happy Birthday, and have a great trip. Also, think of me envying you next week at Comicon. Way long ago, I had planned to go there this year, but things didn't pan out. Sometime I will have to join the craziness that is Comicon. It sounds like it's a great time--as long as you don't mind thousands of people.

And Big Sur -- fabulous! If you get down into Big Sur proper, I highly recommend going to breakfast at Deetjen's, which is the restaurant attached to the Big Sur Inn. The cafe in the Monterey Aquarium is also excellent. (Why, yes, I could eat my way down California. ;-)

Ooo, Nepenthe is lovely, too -- very posh. Deetjens is more funky-down home-in the woods. But the brunch is YUM. Welcome home, older, wiser, and full of good food! ;-)

Ooh! I want to play too!

1. Neville is the kid in the prophecy, not Harry.
2. Hagrid will sacrifice himself to save either Harry or Hermione.
3. Valdemort will die.
4. Sirius isn't dead and will return. Somehow.
5. Dumbledore is a phoenix, and will somehow return, only to go again.
6. Snape will redeem himself by saving someone, probably not Harry though.
7. Aunt Petunia and Dudley will be discovered to have magic.
8. One of the Weasleys (but not Ron) will die. Maybe Percy, once he realizes how much he values his family. If not Percy, Mrs. Weasley, saving him.
9. Snape will be the new headmaster of Hogwarts.
10. THe Weasley twins will save the day with one of their jokes.
Bonus prediction: Everyone will end up paired off...Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Luna/Seamus, Draco/one of the Patil twins, Tonks/Lupin.

I got home at 3 in the afternoon. And have had insomnia and an allergy attack since 2:45 a.m., for some weird reason. One more day off and then back to work on Wednesday - ugh!
