SG1: Commentary of Uninvited
Aug. 19th, 2007 03:17 amUninvited with William Waring and Jim Menard.
Nothing prompts more discussion in pre-production than a lead actor and what type of car he drives. It was hours of sitting around to figure out Mitchell’s Mustang. O’Neill’s Cabin (was going to make it Beau’s but it’s too recognizable as Jack’s) which is in North Vancouver. The car’s owner complained about the rattle in the car’s door. Beau had a Buick Rendezvous (just the tiniest look at it through the trees.)
What is the level of blood to use? What they did wasn’t gory enough so the bodies were reshot later (while the burnt Vala was deemed too graphic and not used.)
Waring uses the same series of shots when during board room scenes. Amanda should be running the whole show. Yeah, that would be nice. (Carter is sitting in the General’s chair.)
The scene of Landry and Mitchell on the porch was shot at night and they were pleased how well they simulated day.
The weird redness to the light for the planet Teal’c is on is done by playing with the settings on the HD camera. The woods shot with a steady cam. Kudos to the music cues.
Nice lightning scenes in the cabin scene with L and M. Can’t have a horror story without lightning and rain. 20x10 feet is the living room dimensions of the cabin. Looks great but is so tiny.
The scene with Vala at the DHD is actually just a field and the up close fir trees were brought in by the greens people (and it still is one steady cam shot.) The gate is actually on location here (not cg.) The Teal’c and Vala interaction was Chris and Claudia’s idea. They only did two takes of this because it started to rain like crazy.
Rain storm at cabin (fishing line in the trees to make them look storm tossed.) Give Ben a flashlight and he can do the lighting. Good to get the camera down so you can see the ceiling of the cabin.
Autopsy: guts are latex. They called the black worm thing Mr. Hanky.
Location where Mitchell sees the dead body is in Langley. It was 90 acres of woods and lake and is now upscale condos. Because they were going to develop it, they were allowed to cut down trees, blow things up. Night in a Museum was also shot there.
Proper gun etiquette when L and M are hunting. Ben is good with a bird gun.
“Vice-presidential bird hunt” is Ben’s own line and they left it in.
Chris with three women on set--it’s a wonder we got anything done.
Will Waring put pineapples in Sunday and Dominion. No pineapple in this show.
They did two nights of shooting. They brought in helium balloons with lights inside them, about 20 feet long, that glow. There was a curfew of midnight for the gunfire. The 360 shot has the balloon right on top of them. They were pretty happy with the muzzle flashes lighting up the actors and stuff.
They thought the poker game was great and thought there should be more scenes like that. When Mitchell went too far with Landry, they remarked they knew what that was like. Generally, it’s okay unless they say, “What were you thinking?” And Waring came close to that with the lemon in Pegasus Project.
Kinda 'eh.'
