There is no emotional element to this show...well, it's tell, not show and on a very thin surface level. So, the boys kiss but then go to a fist fight. Male bonding?
For me, Torchwood is spicy appetizer; your meat and potatoes will be found elsewhere. *g*
That's really how I see it, too. It's fun to watch, but I'm not really into it. It's not like Stargate or Supernatural. :-) It's just fun. I'm not even sure I even like most of the characters, but that doesn't even matter.
I cheered when Spike shot Owen. I was appalled when Gwen shoved Jack and accused him of leaving. Jeeze, Gwen are you still three years old? And the big batty eyes when she shows Jack her engagement ring? Oh. My. God. I feel so sorry for Rhys.
Like you, Ianto is the most likable and it's good to see something more of a personality from him. The asking out on a date thing from Jack was fun.
I kinda like Tash but what does she see in Owen!!!
I'd scanned some article about the show and they mentioned having Capt. John be more or less the character Spike. Last night, John, Jack, James...I got confused. Decided on Spike. *g*
And that should be Tosh, not Tash, of course. Last year they established that Tosh had a crush on Owen, but Owen is such a dog, you'd think that her eyes would have been opened. Well, perhaps she just wants a roll in the hay and to be tossed aside.
I think Rhys is trusting and in love and just doesn't know he's put his affections into someone who thinks she's settled for a boring uninteresting man. She'll make his life a misery because she can't be honest with herself. Cow.
I didn't even notice. I had forgotten her name completely.
I remember her crush on Owen, though, yeah, I don't think they've even established any possible reason for it beyond the fact that she's attracted to him. Heck, I thought the Gwen/Owen thing came out of nowhere, though.
I'm not sure I understand why any woman would like Owen. I don't hate him... I don't hate any of the characters. It's just that he's not all that likable, he's not good looking, he's not nice or charming or funny or amusing. It's hard for me to see what either Gwen or Tosh or Airplane Girl would see in him.
Ah, Spike from Buffy! I get it now. gategrrl mentioned that in her review. My husband has an uncle named Spike, so that's what I always think of when I hear that name. *g* (I can be clueless, but I didn't really think you meant Uncle Spike. *g*)
Also, I had no idea that James Marsters was on Buffy or that he was this "Spike" that everyone has mentioned. I remember him mainly from his brief stint on Smallville and I knew him first because he was in a movie with Joshua Jackson, though I didn't remember what he looked like from that. (For some reason, I thought Spike on Buffy was played by Christian Kane. lol Was Christian Kane even on Buffy then? **is confused**)
ETA: In my defense, I have never seen Buffy--not even a couple of seconds of an episode, so I really don't have a clue about it except references people have made to it. *g*

I guess in both cases, there's no accounting for taste. *g*
