It's called Bottle Shock.  The film is based a true story that took place in 1976.  A British wine agent in Paris (Rickman) hears that the California wines are pretty good.  He travels to Napa, picks up some wines and bring them back to Paris for a blind taste test that pits the newcomers against French vintages.  It's a light comedy and Rickman is perfect as the drool Brit experiencing culture shock in Napa.

The film couldn't find a distributor so the film makers released it themselves.  It's in limited release so you might have to travel to see it.  If you're a Rickman fan, it's a must see.

Arrgh! I hate the words limited release. *sigh*

Closest place I've seen for it is Detroit and I don't think the maternal unit would be willing to drive 12+ hours round-trip to see a movie, even if I didn't have to work.

Just hope they release it on DVD.

That is pretty far. It only came outlast week. Hopefully word of mouth will put it in more theaters. Or, apparently it is available online somehow? I'm sure it will eventually be on DVD.

I did some further digging and found it will be on in Indy starting the 15th.

Time for me to do some serious begging when I get home. ;)

How far away is that for you?

About an hour, allowing for traffic and actually finding the theatre. :) Much better than 6+.

Yep. My theater was about 40 minutes away, but the other ones would have been over an hour. Hey, Rickman was TOTALLY worth it. *g*

Hee! Alan's ALWAYS worth it! The films on the other hand... ;-)

The only real downside about not driving is I have to get the Maternal Unit to agree to take me. Luckily, I think she has a bit of a soft spot for Alan as well. ;)

Thanks for the heads up

I saw a short interview about the film with Alan and whoever else is in it (lol, I only paid attention to Alan!). Saw some clips, too. It looks fun, and he was scrumptious. Love the all-gray hair!

Last week we were watching the KABC news and George Penochio (?) did a short bit on it, interviewing Rickman and Bill Pullman. It was probably that that you saw?

Rickman did look fabulous and we said, "We gotta go see that!" *g*

Yep, that is what I saw. AR just gets better and better!

Have you seen any of the trailers for "The Mentalist" with Simon Baker? Looks like a good show, and he's adorable. Remember him from "The Guardian"? I'll be looking forward to it.

I never saw the Guardian, but I just saw an ad. It looks good. I hope it doesn't conflict with anything.

Oh fun! I always loved visiting the NoCal wineries (Sonoma is prettier than Napa, IMO), love the fact that the California wines more then held their own.

Rickman too! Where is it playing again?

It's playing at the Laemmle Theaters. Most are in the LA area, but the Pasadena one isn't too bad for you, I think.

The film was filmed up in Napa and there are a few loving shots of the vineyards. It made me want to buy some wine.... *g*

Thanks - yes, the Pasadena theatre is close. I'll check out the listings. I love going wine tasting with friends, but when I bring bottles home I find they sit around for forever. I have a couple I should bring to a party some time.
