He's feeling small, I think. He doesn't want to leave his kitty cage. He purred when we petted him, but he just wanted to stay in the cage and take a bath. He stuck his head out long enough to eat a few mouthfuls of food then suddenly thought better of it and retreated back inside. So, we left for out show.

When we came back, we coaxed him out for a minute or two. I offered him more of his special ID bland diet and he just gave me the look (how stupid do you think I am?) Okay.... He's supposed to be on this for a week, along with three different medications. He did eventually come out to use the litter box, then complained. I'm a bad mommy and put a little of the food he likes in his meal and he ate some of it. He's very thoughtful. Mom thinks he's PTSD and rethinking the whole "deal with the devil" (humans) and is trying to exert control over his life again. It's possible. He was the cat that was abused and set up his territory around our bird bath. We took him in to save the song birds. He was a very angry cat back then and we've shown him a lot of patience and love to get him into the range of normal house cat behavior.

We have to give him two meds twice a day and another one once a day. He's gonna think it's assault. Well, we'll just give him lots of love and hope for the best.

The REALLY good news is that the bill was $980 and that's after $172 off from Mom's senior discount. He didn't need all the stuff they had itemized and was only charged for one ICU day and one regular day as opposed to three ICU days. I'm gonna give him an hour and go give him his meds.

It's now an hour later and we gave the drugs. Two dropper fulls of that horrible pink, banana flavored antibiotic and a quarter of a pill. Yeah, that went about as well as I expected. His eyes went black and he drew himself into a tight ball. We gave him lots of love and he eventually purred. But afterwards he stood in front of Mom's bedroom door and when she tried to edge past him, he hissed and growled at her. I distracted him. He thought about it then he ran into his cage. :::sigh:::

This is gonna set him back big time. :(

Does Brindle like harder food? When I had to give Jessie ID, I would cook some of it up as treats by cutting a can of food into small pieces and cooking the pieces in the oven at 350 for about 20-25 minutes. Sometimes I'd sprinkle it with basil. The vet said it worked for dogs that didn't like wet food, or wanted a little variety in substance.
Of course, that was the canine ID, not feline...but maybe it might help?
I hope his appetite and health improve quickly!

Was the canned food like mush or tofu? This stuff is mushie. Putting it in the oven will make it a little crunchie? I might try that. I asked about a bag of dry but the tech said it was pretty expensive.

I just went in to feed him again. He ate about a spoonful then retreated into his cage. I tried to gently tug him out but he REALLY didn't want to go. I was allowed to scratch his ear and he nuzzled me a bit. So, we're okay as long as I don't try to give him his meds. :::sigh:::

I'll try to make crunchies tonight. Thanks!
