Imagine my surprise tonight to see a momma coon with three babies and not the foul tempered one of the past few months. This one is a very tired one and her babies are quite small. This must be the same momma that birthed a late litter last year. The babies are very cute and just learning to eat solid foods. This must be an exhausting time for a mother, nursing three rambunctious kids.

Pic spam!!! But just of momma resting on a pointed rock that over looks the courtyard. Her babies are up a large elm tree about eight feet behind her.

Actually, I think the rock was still quite warm and maybe she was giving her nipples a heat treatment. *g*

Maybe mama will be a little more trusting of you this year - hope so! I have said before, never mind 'red eye', I think cameras need to come with "animal eye" fixing software. Cats, dogs, coons, etc. don't have red eye, but what I call "space kitty" eye. Hope everybody had a good meal!

As a Stargate fan, I always think of them as Goa'uld eyes. *g*

I went to the door and talked quietly to the brood so they'd get used to me. One little one was standing beside momma's flank. She looked up and put her paw over her mouth as her eyes tracked up me, like, "oh my! You ARE tall!" She didn't panic so they are young enough to take the cue from mom and mom was, "hey, I just want some food and I am gonna stay here and eat unless you make a big deal out of it." If they stay calm, I'll try to snap some photos.

Oh yes, photos!

The baby gorilla at the zoo (3 years old) was sitting beside the stream, occasionally breaking the surface of the water with a poke of her fingertip, then staring at said fingertip when it was wet, and eventually putting it in her mouth. She did that over and over - cute! The second bunch of pix I took at the Getty on Sepulveda came out really nice - lots of macros of lowers, panoramas, etc. I haven't uploaded them yet - will send you the URL when I do.

I saw her chase another coon out of the yard last night. The other momma coon--who's cubs are mostly grown-- who we now call Sarah, was crazy vicious in chasing away other coons; I'd hear terrible fights. This one just put her head down and waddled determinedly after the intruder. "Keep going; we're not stopping until we clear the fence." She just walked them to the border. Much more civilized.
