The Presidential debate:

The moment that never fails to make me smile: when Bush falls silent in the middle of a sentence and you can actually hear the wind whistling between his ears.

Freeze framing on Bush as he shuffles his papers so I can catch his "notes."

Kerry was more more specific about his plans than I expected. Bush was as smirking, as vague, as repetitive as I expected. Even Bush's rebuttals show he totally misses the point on more than a few occasions. His thought processes show he is a linear thinker that seems to be incapable of adaption or creativity. It was a bit embarassing to see how gleeful he was over some bits about Kerry. (He forgot Poland! See! See! See!) Yeah, that's nice Dubya; now go take a chill pill.

The military will be an all voluntary army? Apparently they are trying to recall reservists who are in the 50s to be grunts in Iraq and 40% of them are refusing (this is from some of the ex-military types that I work with.) If the government is trying to drag people that age back into service, I think we got a big problem.

And Bush ends with more of his fundamentalist code phrases for God Wants ME to Be Your President. He's one scary ass guy. I could say more, but I won't. Aren't you glad?

Nip/Tuck
Brilliant casting. Conor O'Farrell as the detective! Will that go anywhere or what? Other praiseworthy moments is some of the arty shots they are doing (the brutalized girl lying curled on her bed, fading into Christian lying in the same position,) not to mention how erotic some of their scenes are. Just sizzling! Sean didn't get raped by the Carver? Uh huh, right.

Smallville
Lois wasn't as annoying this time, thank you. I'm unfamiliar with the Superman canon, so I don't know if all that stuff with her dad is right or not but I found the helicopter stuff over the top. It's becoming more and more plain that Clark's unmerited distrust and hostility against Lex will do more than any actions by Lionel to push Lex into being the archenemy. So Lana's a woman now and Clark's stunned that he didn't get to pop her cherry? Poor devasted Clark! I'm glad that Chloe is back. Who was responsible for the attempted hit on Lionel? I supposed we're supposed to suspect Lex, but I don't know about that.... I actually did like the scene where Jason meets with Lana at the Talon. It would be nice to see her acting like an adult and to quite wasting her time on Clark.

Survivor
Thank god that Mia was voted off. She had more eye rolling and theatrics than Bush did during the debate--barely.

Lost
I should like this more than I do. Terry O'Quinn will be in next week episode and I've always loved how he can deliver a line, with such gravity and meaning. I truly regret how Chris Carter eviserated Millenium and O'Quinn's character, but I digress. Maybe this show just needs to get past those awkward first 6 eps before it settles down. I have to say all the pregnant pauses and walking through the jungle is boring me. If they don't start revealing some of these much touted secrets soon they may lose me as a viewer. Twin Peaks could pull this act much better than this and even they went too far on occasion. And this ain't Twin Peaks.

Wire in the Blood: I've just seen the first episode, The Mermaids Singing. Wow. Really good. Recommended. On BBCA. I now this is probably old news but I didn't know about this show. How are the novels? Are they worth pursuing?

Small varmit report: Everything is still the same. I saw some blue jays today flying off with some left over peanuts. They spent hours picking them up, and then burying them elsewhere--mostly under the huge amount of leaf and seed litter of the elm tree right in the foot path of the skunks and raccoons. All that hard work for naught!

He is so fundamentally wrong to be President.

I asked the guys at work what will happend to those the refuse. They said they will make an example of a few people and put them in Federal prison for years. That's just shocking. More and more it seems like our soldiers are worse then indentured servents, like Bush is leaving them over there until attrition makes them go away.
