I went and collected the big guy at 10am. The vet tech brought him out in a cage and told me he did fine but was still 'head shy'--this while he was rubbing his face against the fingers I'd stuck inside the cage.

Once home, he's been incredibly loving and I'd interpret his behavior as grateful. Usually, his attitude is "home is where I'm supposed to be and it's good to be back." All day, he's been rather excited; he wants more food, he wants to be petted more, he wants out, he wants to be near us both. He's been purring so loud I worry about it being painful, and boy has he got nuzzles to share! Constant nuzzles, hard and eager, which, since he's had some teeth pulled, should be a bit tender? Finally, I took a nap and my strategy worked as he came to join me and settled down to nap, too. Reggie feels napping together is quality time, bonding time. He's all over the place again, but not so hyper about it.

So, I think he might feel this trip was worth it (not like being molested by that ultrasound exam last month.) They sent him home with 7 days of pain meds and a lot of antibiotics, so fingers crossed, he should be as right as rain for awhile. We'll just need to cater to a cat that has a strong desire to show us how much he loves us for now. There's worse things that can happen. :)
