Cursive writing....

...apparently is considered by some--in the age of texting and email-- as merely an art form. They argue that it's a waste of time to teach it in schools when they could be teaching something else (like, let me see...spelling perhaps? Or grammar? Or are those also just antiquated concepts that need to be dropped?)
