BunnyCon Con Report
Apr. 9th, 2009 10:03 pmHere, for prosperity, is a report for our first annual Bunnycon, held in Manteca, CA.
First off, I bought a copy of Paint Shop and made a graphic for the con and my name badge:

Most of the planned contests did not happen for various reasons. We all did make our badges, but the Haiku and Art contest...not so much. Four paint by numbers kits--all the same one of twee kitties--were sent home with instructions to finish the kits in an individual and creative way by next year for THAT Bunnycon.
Contests that did happen were the Eat Til You Want to Puke Contest and the Lost Cat Contest. Snuffy, the heavy breathing tuxedo cat escape on Monday morning. Lost posters were generated and posted. Someone phoned to say the cat had been in their yard and jumped the fence. A boy in the next yard over was watching the cat until S could retrieve her. S was so happy/grateful for a happy ending, she gave out flowers and reward money to all that helped get Snuffy back. The little demon cat, now that she's tasted freedom, is quite keen to try to escape now. :(
The Puke So You Can Eat More contest was canceled due to a lack of contestants.
We did have good attendance at the tech panels, including "How to make a badge using Paint Shop Pro," "Needle Felting Small Animals," "Felting Purses," and "You all have the cool techie toy, iPod Touch, and I want my own and now you all have to help me set it up." We had an impromptu speaker, Jose, the Plumber, who performed magic acts on the guest bathroom toilet which had decided to go on strike.
We had two field trips, one to Sonora, which is a lovely old Gold Rush town. Our destination was a yarn store, but we also found a great kitchen gadget store and a New Age type of place. The second field trip was to a needle point store.
We did watch a few music vids. For shows, our favorite episodes included:
Blake's Seven: Seek, Locate, Destroy.
The Professionals: Mixed Doubles.
Black Adder: Potato and Bells.
Sherlock Holmes: The Dancing Men.
The X-Files: Bad Blood.
Blood Ties: Heart of Ice, Heart of Fire.
Forever Knight: Father Figure (was hoping for Father's Day, though.)
Robin of Sherwood: The Swords of Wayland.
SG-1: Legacy, Upgrades.
Thoughts for next year:
Buy a new inflatable bed.
Four full days of the con would be great.
Have the con three or four weeks before Easter if possible so shopping for Easter Bunnies is more successful. Easter will be:
April 4, 2010.
April 24, 2011.
April 8, 2012
Have a theme night, like Westerns (Alias Smith and Jones, Wild,Wild West.) And everyone bring episodes of their favorite comedies for a change of pace (must bring Red Dwarf.)
Also do a trivia contest, and maybe one of those contest where you collect photos of lips, eyes or hair and try to guess who they belong to.
ETA: Saw a license plate on the way home over near JPL/NASA. It read: GAS+EMF. Yes, it was Prius. *g*
Also, I had fun with my iPod while driving. I put it on shuffle for the trip home. Turns out it really likes Tull, Ian Anderson, Chris Issak, Pink Floyd, The Call and Johnny Cash. In one of those moments where you go, "eh?" I was starting up the Tejon Pass when CCR's "I heard it through the grapevine" came on. I thought, "Cool. Long song. Maybe I can get to the top before I have to hit skip on the next song" because you know, it's tricky trying to move past all the fools in their underpowered cars scattered over all the lanes (it's four or five lanes at that part with cars/trucks moving anywhere from 20 to 80 mph. Defensive driving at it's best.) The song ended while I was in the narrowest part, the full moon shining through the scattered clouds, lighting up the massive hills on either side--very striking, very magical. It wasn't until the last few notes that the penny fell. Grapevine. (That's the slang term for that stretch of road, btw.) I've got 2769 songs on that thing. What are the odds that that song would play at that moment?
A good time was had by all and the con was a great success. A bunch of happy memories were made. :)

Date: 2009-04-10 08:19 pm (UTC)So, we're talking about an overnighter? You're off on Friday's now? Or is that you just don't have to go into the office to work on Fridays? Friday/Saturday?
So, where did Mon sleep? *g* I had an airmattress last weekend but it had a slow leak. Well, Chris had the slow leak, I had the couch. Now I'm think I just need to throw the air bed out. After Comic Con, I took that one back because of its slow leak, and the replacement leaked too. :(
There was going to be a Criminal Minds con in June or July but they've not announced it. They didn't even go looking for a hotel until Feb, so I'm wondering it it's going to happen. I'll try to suss out it then we can make plans. :)
Hey, speaking of cons, any news??! Don't make me beg!!
