Why can't I burn a SPN episode to disk?

I tivo'd Lucifer Rising and just watched it. A friend I'll be seeing at MediaWest Con, her VCR didn't capture the sound and now she'd like to see the episode, so I thought I'd burn a copy. The first half recorded fine, but it won't record the 3rd quarter hour for about the first 3 minutes. It tells me: "Copy-protected. Cannot record."

Is there a way to get around this? How long has this been going on?

I have a copy I downloaded from the internet...but not sure how that'll burn to dvd since it's only 350 mb.

I thought you were in transit? If you have it on you and can burn it, I can get you a blank dvd at the con.

Actually, my Merlin eps are 350mb and they look pretty good.
