MediaWest Con and kitties.
Jun. 3rd, 2010 04:11 pmI got home with only a few hours delay due to a lightening storm over Atlanta while I was there changing planes. I do hate flying....
The con was good. I changed roommates this year and while I hung with my old gang, I slept very, very well with the new ones. It makes an incredible difference! I did attend panels on Bones, Top Gear, Castle, Criminal Minds and co-modded one on Merlin. When we found we missed a panel we wanted to see, we held our own at dinner. *g* As I said before, we did well with the door contest. The art show was pretty good but a little smaller than last year. There was little SG1 or Merlin...plus I was feeling very, very poor since I've had a couple of paychecks that were less than a third of usual since I've been out of work because of my shoulder. There were some lovely pieces though. That also explains why I went on a solitary room crawl about 2pm on Saturday; I was hoping most of the room dealers were closed and I just wanted to look at the doors. I got 6 SG1 zines, and a couple of mouse pads and prints and that was about it.
We had a fine meal at Sahara's, ate many meals at Bob Evans', a couple at Grumpy's and even went for a few late night shake runs at Steak and Shake. My car was upgraded to full size so I had a Mercury Grand Marquis. I kept hearing Clarkson in my head, "that is cheap, this is poorly designed and it handles like moribund boat. Absolute rubbish!" I do like that it had two bench seats so I crammed 6 people in it. :) "Move along officer, nothing to see here." And it had a very good A/C unit. That made me very forgiving!
The Vid Show was pretty good, too. Longer than last year, too. There was a lovely Jack/Daniel one. :) And a lovely Merlin one set to Celtic music.
I don't really have any news from the con; just a lot of happy memories of friends, laughs and good conversation (and watching Firefly DVDs.)
Now for the cat report. The bottom line is that Abby got out and two days later she's safely back inside. The details for my own enjoyment are behind the cut:
She came back on her own!! She escaped on Tuesday noonish; as we worried, Brindle opened the door and she slipped out while Mom was having a nap. Mom was very upset and hadn't seen her. I saw her for a few minutes Wednesday about 4pm. She followed Buddy down into the courtyard and ate some food I'd given to Brindle. She was right next to the sliding door, but the angle was wrong to grab her. I just talked to her and gave her some treats. She darted away a few times so I was feeling glum that she was indeed feral at heart.
Then this morning, Mom got up at dawn and sent out a psychic message to her to come home, then decided to check the yard. Abby was out in the courtyard, so Mom opened the door and called to her. She trotted up, paused to sniff the threshold, then walked right in. Mom gave her all the treats she wanted she was so happy! (Mom was pretty upset as Abby has wormed her way deeply into our hearts and she was missing her terribly.) Then Abby came to sleep on me and when I got up, she went to sleep against Mom. Later this afternoon when I opened the door to let Buddy in, she walked out, looked at a bird, thought about it and then came back in. As you can imagine, more treats were given. She's had quite a few of them today!
So, she's graduated to being an indoor/outdoor kitty. She seems very confident, serene and happy. I guess our little girl is now a young lady who knows she has the same privileges as the boys. We talked about it and decided that it was better to let her do this then to have her escape and not want to come in because of a prisoner mentality. She's asleep right now on the cat tree, she on one perch, Buddy on the higher one.
And because it's taken me so long to finish this, she stayed in even while I went out to put out food and water for the varmits and even though both boys went out. She really is a great little cat. We don't want her to go out but the reality is that she will get out. How long she stays out and how she gets back in is the real question.
