Jan. 14th, 2011 11:30 pmHad a great time. Bought some lovely rocks, tools and a 'packable hat' for the up coming cruise. It looks like a straw hat with a five inch brim, quite graceful, but it's made of rag and nylon and it rolls right up to fit in the luggage. Cool. We stayed at the Rodeway Inn, the #2 motel in Blythe according to Trip Adviser. Honestly, I have no complaints about the lodging but last night when we drove up at 11pm, it looked creepy and slightly dangerous. It was fine in the daylight. It was just that 'desert town' vib.
Then we stopped at Agua Caliente, (Indian casino) for a seafood buffet. We're home now. The Feliway has been in use since Wednesday morning. I'm not seeing anything yet, but we were gone since Thursday. We'll let Coco out again tomorrow.
More cat politics:
Actually, I have to add that Monday night, Mom got up to go piddle in the middle of the night and left the door open, assuming all the cats were asleep. She looked over to find Buddy staring accusingly at her "you left the door open!" and he sat guard in front of the open door til she returned. The next night, she did the same thing but this time, Abby darted into the room. There was much growling under the bed and Buddy walked over to the doorway and gave Mom a look that clearly said, "well, now you've done it." By the time I got home in the morning, Abby was sitting comfortably in the window and Coco was under the bed. It was after that that I plugged in the Feliway. That evening we brought Coco out into the living room. She went under a table next to Mom's EZ chair. Abby figured her out after a couple of hours and sloooooowly approached until she was within a foot, then she retreated a foot, turned and tea cozied. I thought things were doing well, but when I wasn't watching, someone threw a punch and there was a slap and scream event which I broke up. We took Coco back into the bedroom and shut the door, giving her some quiet time. She seemed a little traumatized even the next day, only hopping up on the bed briefly to be petted before hiding again. Thursday before we left, Buddy went into the room and peered under the bed at Coco. She hissed and growled. He rolled over on his back and wiggled about, trying to show her he was non-threatening and wouldn't it be nice to play a little. No go.
Coco seemed more normal a couple of hours ago when we got back. We will try again in the morning. But I think Buddy gets high marks for being such a wonderful, caring Alpha. After that slap and scream fight, Buddy walked into the room and looked around. He approached my chair and since Coco was on the other side of it, I put my hand down there to block him, fearing that he might be amped up by the fight sounds and automatically want to chase off the new cat. He was affronted. He plainly feels that all things pertaining to cats are HIS business. He pushed past my hand, checked out Coco in the corner, back out and hopped up on the couch beside Abby. Perhaps he wanted to keep an eye on Abby. He is such a sweetie.
And Brindle? He says, "Not my problem, leave me out of it."
