I decided to skip Alexander for now and go for the fun movie that I can enjoy without wincing through, and I did enjoy National Treasure. Yes, it has flaws and inconsistencies and implausibilities, not to mention Nicholas Cage or that it borrowed heavily from The Da Vinci Code, but I still had fun. *g*

I liked that the lead characters respected history and found it interesting. I like Sean Bean, who was the villian Ian Howe and Justin Bartha, who played the sidekick, Riley Poole. I like that Sean Bean was quite a likeable villian, but he was also a bit scary with how relentless he was. But as always, I liked the sidekick best. What's that all about, anyway?? Perhaps they're allowed to be funny, smart, and a bit vulnerable? It was interesting that I found Riley's likeability quite a bit less in that last scene.

Anyway, I wonder if this will spark any fanfic? It does have Sean Bean. I'm not aware of much fanfic that is generated by any Nicolas Cage characters.

I'm with you, I had a blast watching "National Treasure," and I wasn't expecting plausibility because you know, Jerrry Bruckheimer, I didn't come for the accuracy so much.

The moment when Sean Bean's character really clicked for me? The moment when he lost his friend (another bad guy) and there was *actual emotion* involved -- and when he said to the good guys, "Do you imagine I value your lives as much as his?" ... oooh, nice. I love it when the villains have actual presence and lives and emotions of their own.

Same reaction with Riley as you, too. :hee:

And yes, believe it or not, I've written some fanfic from Nic Cage characters. My personal kink was Face/Off, and I did three (I think it was three) stories on Castor Troy.

Yeah, what the hell did I do with those, anyway? :ponders: I kinda liked 'em. Any character that says, "I can eat a peach for hours" -- well. Yes. Obviously there must be fic.

I will bear that in mind while viewing the next Bruckheimer project and adjust accordingly. He sure is everywhere!

That was a good moment in the film. I was intrigued when it was revealed he would be the villain. I already like him and was comfortable around him. I was actually surprised he would have to be the bad guy (I hadn't seen any spoilers for the film.)

I did not know about those stories, but then I haven't seen those films. I guess that's why. That line about the peach; what film was that in, please?

And congrats about meeting your deadline!

I took the stories offline, because I figured that it was my own private obsession, actually. :heh:

The line about the peach is from the John Woo movie FACE/OFF, with Nic Cage and John Travolta.

And thanks! :)

So, I've seen the trailer and have heard this movie is quite slashy, so I expect I'll be trundling off to see it when it opens here...

Meanwhile, you've obviously overlooked the cinematic masterpiece that is the Spongebob Squarepants Movie! It has David Hasselhoff! :P

It has a few moments, some touches and looks. The three main male characters are attractive and likeable. It's worth the cash for a few hours of entertainment, for sure.

I'm alarmed that you knew about the Spongebob film. It was blissfully off my radar, and apparently, you've been anticipating it? Care to explain?

You say that, but I *know* you're going to be waiting in line for the Spongebob movie to open. ;)

I hear Spongebob isn't quite as het as Shrub would like, but even that won't get me sit still and watch him at anytime, anywhere!

And quit trying to make me! :-P

I think I'll have to see this one. I had planned to skip it, but you're the second person I know who's enjoyed it. It does look like a lot of fun.

I'm thinking more fondly of it even a few days later. And the usual film dissection I do after the film was over small stuff, really. I think you'll have fun.
