National Treasure
Nov. 30th, 2004 02:50 amI decided to skip Alexander for now and go for the fun movie that I can enjoy without wincing through, and I did enjoy National Treasure. Yes, it has flaws and inconsistencies and implausibilities, not to mention Nicholas Cage or that it borrowed heavily from The Da Vinci Code, but I still had fun. *g*
I liked that the lead characters respected history and found it interesting. I like Sean Bean, who was the villian Ian Howe and Justin Bartha, who played the sidekick, Riley Poole. I like that Sean Bean was quite a likeable villian, but he was also a bit scary with how relentless he was. But as always, I liked the sidekick best. What's that all about, anyway?? Perhaps they're allowed to be funny, smart, and a bit vulnerable? It was interesting that I found Riley's likeability quite a bit less in that last scene.
Anyway, I wonder if this will spark any fanfic? It does have Sean Bean. I'm not aware of much fanfic that is generated by any Nicolas Cage characters.

Date: 2004-11-30 04:26 pm (UTC)The moment when Sean Bean's character really clicked for me? The moment when he lost his friend (another bad guy) and there was *actual emotion* involved -- and when he said to the good guys, "Do you imagine I value your lives as much as his?" ... oooh, nice. I love it when the villains have actual presence and lives and emotions of their own.
Same reaction with Riley as you, too. :hee:
And yes, believe it or not, I've written some fanfic from Nic Cage characters. My personal kink was Face/Off, and I did three (I think it was three) stories on Castor Troy.
Yeah, what the hell did I do with those, anyway? :ponders: I kinda liked 'em. Any character that says, "I can eat a peach for hours" -- well. Yes. Obviously there must be fic.

Date: 2004-12-02 11:14 am (UTC)That was a good moment in the film. I was intrigued when it was revealed he would be the villain. I already like him and was comfortable around him. I was actually surprised he would have to be the bad guy (I hadn't seen any spoilers for the film.)
I did not know about those stories, but then I haven't seen those films. I guess that's why. That line about the peach; what film was that in, please?
And congrats about meeting your deadline!

Date: 2004-12-02 03:20 pm (UTC)I took the stories offline, because I figured that it was my own private obsession, actually. :heh:
The line about the peach is from the John Woo movie FACE/OFF, with Nic Cage and John Travolta.
And thanks! :)
