"got a condo made of stone-a"
Dec. 1st, 2004 05:29 pmJust saw on the news that a new, improved King Tut exhibit will be coming to the LACMA (LA county museum of Art) starting in June of 2005. It will have some of the stuff from the last time and 130 new pieces. A fair amount of the money will be going back to Egypt to help with building their museums and the care of artifacts. Whoo hoo!
For those that are local, the Bowers Museum on Sat, Dec 4 is having a lecture on how the Great Pyramind was built. 1:30-3pm. http://www.bowers.org/
Now, everyone sing along with me!
"King Tut (King Tut)
Now when he was a young man,
He never thought he'd see
People stand in line to see the boy king.
(King Tut) How'd you get so funky?
(funky Tut) Did you do the monkey?
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut).
(king Tut) Now, if I'd known
they'd line up just to see him,
I'd trade in all my money
And bought me a museum. (king Tut)
Buried with a donkey (funky Tut)
He's my favorite honkey!
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut)
Dancin' by the Nile, (Disco Tut)
The ladies love his style, (boss Tut)
Rockin' for a mile (rockin' Tut)
He ate a crocodile.
He gave his life for tourism.
Golden idol!
He's an Egyptian
They're sellin' you.
Now, when I die,
now don't think I'm a nut,
don't want no fancy funeral,
Just one like ole king Tut. (king Tut)
He coulda won a Grammy,
Buried in his Jammies,
Born in Arizona, moved to Babylonia,
He was born in Arizona, got a condo made of stone-a,
King Tut"

Date: 2004-12-03 04:13 am (UTC)I've been doing some online checking today. Memberships to LACMA are $75. Tickets are on sale NOW, but to members only. If you don't buy a membership, you can't even buy tickets until mid March. No freebies with membership (as far as Tut), but there is a slight discount on ticket price, a few special viewing days, and the first hour of every exhibit day you can go in early (not sure how that works...). So if you bought a membership and one ticket, you're talking $100. Not such a great deal, esp. when having membership only gives you a few benefits, Tut-wise.
HOWEVER - what I think I'm going to do ... Ticketmaster has a special thing going if you buy it THIS MONTH ONLY - two VIP tickets for $100, plus a book (I think?) and a DVD. However, those tickets can be used ANY DAY, without advance notice, and you go to the head of the line/in the VIP entrance.
One thing I'm not sure of, and I want to ask the museum, is if I get two tickets, can I use one of them one day and the other one another day? If so, then for sure that's what I'm going to do. Even if not, buying the two "anytime" tickets makes it easier to plan to go with others (if a bunch of us wanted to go together), because you don't have to worry about what date at the time you're ordering the tickets, you can decide it later.
Ticket prices: $20 for members, $25 weekdays for non-members and $30 weekends for non-members. The VIP package is looking better all the time.

Date: 2004-12-04 01:07 am (UTC)I've been a member before, and as far as I knew the membership fee was still $60. Also, previously, I had gotten free tickets to both the Pompeii exhibit and the Amarna exhibit for my $60. Now it's $75 and no Tut freebies. The membership benefit just for the Tut exhibit isn't that great. For me, the VIP tour thingy is perfect, for several reasons (see Bash post..).
I can hardly wait! Heee!
