Tenaya's Excellent Adverture
Dec. 4th, 2004 01:33 pmWe came, we saw, we bought. Dinner was great. The cat that was lost was found again, and everyone lived happily ever after:
Yesterday, just as we were leaving the house, Reggie slipped outside and hid. Since he'd went to the vets last week, he's gotten paranoid again that everytime I put on my shoes, he thinks he's going back to the vets. So, we had to leave him outside for 12 hours. :::sigh::: It was probably more traumatic for me than him, but it was not a good start for the day. The little stinker!
The Gem and Mineral Show was fabulous. Mom likes rocks and minerals, my friend who went with us likes precious stones, I'm inbetween, and we all found lovelies to buy. Mom got some opal rings and earrings. Friend got gold hoop earrings with diamonds channel set (for $300, marked down from $1800). She also got her gold ring repaired as one of the channel set diamonds had fallen out. She had been reluctant to leave it at a jewelry store as she feared the diamonds could be replaced with fakes if they weren't entirely honest. I got a cool ring, kinda flower shaped with amethest and blue topaz, some earrings to go with it, and two cool rocks with crystalizations in them that had holes drilled in one end so one can make a necklace out of it. Of course, I had fun matching strings of dyed pearls and other stuff so I can play around with completing it as a necklace. Friend kept walking around dazed and amazed at the selection and prices of all the stuff that was there. The next show is in April and she's determined to save up some money to buy another big ticket item.
After the show, we had a fine dinner at the King's Head. It was just as I dreamed. Yummers.
Next, we drove down Wilshire to the LACMA to get the Tut tickets. Friend was driving her Mercedes Benz SUV, and it turns out she is the type of driver that drives me crazy. She was singing along to her music, driving about 5 to 10 mph under the speed limit. Cars were honking, zigzagging around her and she'd just cheerfully tell them, "Sillies! Saved three seconds did you?" It was a nightmare for me. The street goes through Beverly Hills and they had Christmas decorations up on the streets and stores, and she'd actually slow down to a near stop just to gaze at the stuff, while in the fast lane. Anyway, we get the museum that is supposed to stay open til 9pm on Fridays. Just as I scamper up to the box office window, they hit the last button that starts the computer registers closing up for the night. Sorry, can't do the tickets they say. When pressed why they are closing up so early, they say because it was slow. Mind you, there's a concert going on 20 feet away and lots of people milling about. I was so not happy.
We meandered back home (I had to close my eyes so I couldn't see how she was driving.) Brindle was waiting for us when we got home. I petting him a hello, opened the door, put down my stuff, turned to see Big Reg marching through the door. I have no idea where he was, but he was fine if hungry and little chilled around the edges. Afterwards, he put himself to bed in the middle of my bed with the attitude that there was nothing that was going to shift him off of it. And even though I had to position myself in a crescent around his big purring self, it was the happiest I'd been all day.
Today, I called and got my Tut tickets for June 23, the Thursday after it opens. They did not tack on all the phone order extras that can cost more than the tickets this time. Well, now I know and so do you. *g*
So, everything ends well after all.
This morning, I decided to explore the wonders of Spam (spurred on by the Hawaiians at work) and made spam omelettes. They were pretty good, actually. I gave Garage Guy one, too. Maybe if he thinks were going to feed him spam he'll be more inclined to move on? Unfortunately, his dog is under the weather this morning. She threw up last night and was shivering. No cough, but she's not her normal bouncy self. She didn't want to eat this morning either. Perhaps it's transitory? The last dog I had, throwing up was no big deal for him. J is worried about his little girl though. I can't blame him what with how I fuss over the cats. Hopefully, it's nothing. We still haven't told him he can stay til Saturday. If he's not going to ask, we're not going to volunteer apparently.

Date: 2004-12-05 05:12 pm (UTC)You got your fish & chips? I picked up Chinese from the local hole in the wall I love last night and gorged.
Sheesh! As a museum member, you should complain about the early box office closing. General public, maybe - but you're a member and pay well for the privilege, so they should know about this. Glad you got your tickets eventually.
I'm waiting for the Tut online "store" to list their goodies. The site said "Spring 2005". I know I'll want to buy tons of stuff, so it'd help if I bought a few things ahead of time. I want the catalog of course, and that can be bought now I think. But if it's Egyptian, I want it, so it'd be good for me to start buying early, a little at a time, so I don't break the bank when I actually go ;-) Alas, I'm sure they won't have t-shirts that fit me! :-(
The main problem I've always had with Spam is its saltiness - way too salty for me. However, I've noticed the last 5 years or so as I'm getting decrepit and my taste buds are dying off that I'm salting my food more, so maybe it'd work for me now.
Awww, hope that Doggy GG is okay!

I went ahead and ordered the catalog. I know I'm going to buy it, so I might as well spend the money now than later.
