He's gone!

As of 8pm tonight, Garage Guy is now Basement Guy and is someone else's problem. He, of course, disappeared to visit a friend just as we were getting ready to open up my car so he could start packing and didn't come back for nearly 2 hours and it was dusk. We were moving everything out of the garage at this point (to lock him out if he didn't show up soon) so he just pitched in to help--he didn't have any other choice really. He did develop a bad back all of a sudden, and once at the new place, was suddenly horrified by the dust (carpet will be laid in a few days) and the lingering new paint fumes. It's been 7 days since the paint was put on, and if he was really worried about the dust, I would have thought he would have wanted to damp mop earlier in the day perhaps?? He was fretting that the dust would hurt his dog. I looked and sniffed and honestly told him I would have no qualms about sleeping there. And then we left.

Since it's cold and dark now, I'll put the locks on tomorrow. I am very, *very* relieved that this is, hopefully, all behind us now. I think I've been cured from personally doing someone a good turn.

Thank you. Mom is very kind hearted and it's been hard for her to see how he's taking her generousity and giving nothing back. When we had both the cars loaded up, there was a delay because Mom's windshield was so dusty that it needed to be washed off first. As he was cleaning it off, he laughed and said, "Now remember, I'm not charging you for this!" I thought that was very inappropriate. We have charged him for nothing--no rent, no chipping in for the increased electricity or food, or even asked for him to replace items he has broken. I would have thought he'd been eager to do some small things in return but instead he made it plain we were getting this task done free and we should be thankful for that. He also made a remark to his new landlord that was along similar lines when the man miscounted the rent money. We are so very glad he's gone. Thank you for being concerned, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmastime.
