BABIES!!!!
Jun. 11th, 2005 02:07 amLast night, guess who showed up with SIX babies? Yes, Cutiepie has brought her family to dinner. This is her 4th litter. The first was two pups, the next two had five each and now she's going to raise six! These are a pretty good size already, too. I've posted the photos here:
varmits
The photos are from tonight but unfortunately, a couple of the pictures are blurred; I didn't want to stress them out with a lot of photos on their second visit here. They came running down into the yard about 9pm. Since then, she's sent them up the elm while she had a confrontation with another coon. After she brought them down to feed again, another raccoon came into the courtyard from the gate. She gave her kids some other signal and they piled behind her instantly while she faced off with the new guy. She must have a couple different commands (go up a tress, get behind me) and those kids obey her instantly. This new raccoon I imagine was from last year's litter as after a minute or two, everyone calmed down and just started eating. She then sent them up the tree again, which is a good thing because I've heard coyotes on the hill twice tonight. So scary, so scary....
And just as I was working on the photos, I felt a niggle and looked up to find her staring intently at me through the door. All the kibble was gone and she was requesting more. *g* Currently, they are back up in the elm, all safe for now.
I also included a photo of Laughing Boy from about a month ago. The skunk photos are from tonight. There's Skinny Tail and a pair of youngsters that were out and about before sunset. There's a few other little skunks about and they are incredibly cute. One little guy bounced and charged at an adult skunk until he got it to leave! They are so full of themselves and are a delight to watch.
