And I almost fell for it. I got an email that looked very official and it stated that I had recieved a payment from someone in the UK. Huh, I thought. That's odd. For details of the transaction, all I needed to do was click on the link. I did, but balked when I was to put in my password. I closed everything down, and went back to paypal via my bookmark and low and behold, there is no transaction.

Tricky, tricky, tricky!

yes, be very careful with those. I've gotten several and I never click on the links. I go to the paypal website and check. They are never true. It's gotten so bad I delete anything from paypal unless I know I used it.

The return address was service at paypal.com and they had copied their format really well. The tip off should have been that they didn't use my name. They are getting so adapt at copying legit communications, I don't know how banks/ebay/paypal will be able to conduct their own business as their customers might delete it as a fraudulent.

I rarely get anything important from my banks in the mail. When I log in to access my bank statements, they have messages of new and sundry stuff. Also, I still get a paper newsletter from one.

But you're right. In the future, things will be less paper and more email, and these incidents are not helping.

And ebay stuff is getting bad, too.

Curious. I received an email last week saying I'd received money from someone in Switzerland. However, it does seem to be a genuine mistake as the money is there when I log into my paypal account via my bookmarks, and I also traced it back to what looks like a genuine ebay transaction. However, I'm still concerned it is some kind of scam. I figure if it is genuine the person who accidentally sent me the money will eventually get in touch.

I'm desperately trying to remember if I checked out the transaction from the email now. *sigh*

I just rechecked and I don't have any money. So, unless Switzerland baited you with only a couple of pounds, I'd think it would just be a mistake. It wouldn't hurt to monitor you ebay acount for a while though.

Good luck.
