Well, he had his ultrasound and came home a little stressed, a bit on the hot side and with a bald belly. I have to say, this is not a good look for him. We've always teased him about having an udder because he has this large fold of loose skin. Now that it's shaved, you can see two distinct rows, with nipples. We are not laughing because he'd know we were laughing at him and get all annoyed with us. This way, he can maintain his dignity, or at least the illusion of it.
The vet took another urine culture and sensitivity and when the results come back, the vet will call us and I can further discuss the results. I have questions. 19 written down questions. I am prepared. Poor vet. *g*
He has no kidney stones. Huh. He does have nephritis with perirenal changes of an unknown origin, a free floating mass near the kidney that is either adipose or possibly cancer, and the liver changes are suggestive of hepatic lipidosis, moderately severe disease. Yet the prognosis is fair. Do you see why I have 19 questions? Meanwhile, the big guy lost 4 oz in 10 days and the vet was very pleased. I'm thinking that could be because he hadn't eaten or drank for 24 hours, but maybe that's just me being negative.
Meanwhile, he has been very affectionate, yet demanding. He isn't shy about telling us we OWE him so we better get off our butts and get him another serving of chicken breast. Actually, he's at my feet at the moment. He looks over and blinks and I blink back and tell him how wonderful he is. But interestingly, I just caught him looking at me with pure speculation and a hint of suspicion. Are cats psychic? Does he know I'm obsessing about him right now? Or does he know I'm wondering if I should give him his pill? Maybe he's trying to make me feel guilty....

Date: 2005-11-10 08:40 pm (UTC)Do you know they make treats now with holes in them just for giving pills? I saw them at the pet store tonight. Me, I'll keep rolling them in cheese or peanut butter.
The psychic thing? Yep. Definitely.

Date: 2005-11-12 08:11 pm (UTC)My sister came over for dinner tonight, and somehow we ended up talking about our vet bills over the past year. (She lost her dog in May.) We couldn't decide which of us spent more, but both of us overloaded our credit cards in the four digit range too.
But...what else can you do?
I'm trying not to buy as many books. I'm a librarian, fcol! I should be able to get anything I want at work! Sadly, I still seem to be a bookaholic...and my eyes are definitely bigger than my spare time. I have boxes of books which I thought looked good that I still haven't read! And maybe never will.
Now, ask me where we went this evening. :)

Date: 2005-11-13 12:14 pm (UTC)I have probably a closet full of used and new books I haven't read yet. That's one of the ways I keep myself out of a bookstore by telling myself I NEED to read those books first!
As for the credit card, there's nothing else you can do. People either get it, or they don't. I've got a lot of trips planned and obviously Reg is going to be taking a bit bite out of my budget since they've alread told me he'll need to have his blood and urine rechecked every 2-3 months, and repeat ultrasounds (which are like $360 each time) so I'll be squeeking on everything else though! The credit cards have room so I'm not going to worry about it.
