The Tree O Doom
May. 15th, 2006 01:03 amHousehold stuff--and photos!--to follow:
The bottomline is that the power company will be by at 8-9am to turn off our electricity and the Arborist will be standing by to trim the tree. The power will be turned back on later in the day. We've not been able to contact the phone company because they are strictly a M-F operation. Oh, and my cell phone has suddenly decided not to work. :(
The Arborist will cost a couple of hundred more, but he had photos of other trees he's worked on (oooh nice!) while the other guy was "you'll be happy with what we'll do" and he said something about giving the tree a haircut. The Arborist felt the tree is okay for a few days unless it gets windy or too hot (something about water coming up into the leaves.)
We phoned the the power company three times, got three different answers. One, we'll send someone out to look at the situation. Two, we need 5 working days to schedule this type of thing. Three, we'll send someone out first thing on Monday. As to whether we'll get our power turned off twice or not at all, both are an even money bet.
The following are pictures where you can see the trunk leaning, and from the street, you can see half the tree is missing.

And just because he's cute and helpful, here's Brindle. Oh, he caught and killed a rat last night in the back yard. We gave him MUCH praise. The trouble is there's lots of fruit trees here, lots of good habitat for the nasty little critters.
