tenayaI've been moody lately and tending to cocoon. With lots to catch up on, it'll probably seem like I'm spamming the LJ but I'll try and use cuts.
Aside from the concert review just posted, I also was full of delight at this week's Boston Legal. At the risk of being redundant, it was delightful--there just is no other word for it. Denny shoots his therapist and Alan rushes to defend. I could not imagine how he could possibly get out of trouble for that! But that moment when it becomes clear that the therapist wants to toture Denny by killing Alan in front of him was a kick to the gut. "You tell all your secrets to him" the therapist jealously whines. The subtext has hardly any sub left in it. Alan says it's his lover on the phone and answers with "Hello Denny." Denny tells Alan you don't introduce your wife to your mistress when referencing Alan and the therapist meeting.
One of the big elements of slash to me is the basic ingredient of having two cute guys. Alan is wonderful, he's cute, he's sarcastic and witty, he's ethically challenged and he's so vulnerable and flawed my heart aches. Denny is William Shatner, a man I've never been attracted to. It's always been a road block for me, but lately, ah lately.... Alan and Denny need each other emotionally, and that emotion is the next big ingredient for slash. After that episode, I could easily imagine the comfort that Denny supplies to Alan and the satisfaction that that brings to Denny veering into a physical expression. I think Denny's to the point of it not mattering that Alan is on the "same team." Trouble is, I'm still not sure I can write stuff like that with Shanter as one of the players!
