It was a good trip and I had lots of fun.

The flights out were fine as I had the luck to choose Cincinatti as a hub. Those that used O'Hare suffered from something like 12 hour delays, both on Wed and Thurs.

The con itself had lots of energy, good attendance, lots of interesting panels, a full art show a good selection of zines, a fair amount of decorated doors and a good selection of fandoms represented. And I didn't have near enough time to smooze with all my friends from distant lands. Why is six days not enough time??

I didn't go to half the panels I wanted as most were up against each other. Putting the only non-ship SG1 panel against the only Boston Legal panel? Aside from the usual squeeing (SG1, Capt Jack, Harry Potter) the most informative panel was on Monday, attended by 5 people and was about fandom and the PTB and was run by a lady who is a practicing lawyer (she apparently ran the Boston Legal panel so we got some BL content in this panel.) Apparently, in order to make it worth TPTB while to go after someone, you have to both be making money and they have to be show they are losing money (or being damaged?) from your activities. She said nothing has ever gone beyond the Cease and Desist letters when it's come to fannish activities (the cost of filing and all that is just too prohibitive when there's no money at the end of their endeavors.) The only thing that infringes on TPTB's rights is using their official photos, their logos and their music.

Scifi links to fan sites. ABC has jumped in with both feet and are embracing fans (as fans breed more fans) as opposed to Paramount and Fox's idea to stomp on fansites. They're putting up podcasts on fansites. Lost is a totally massive and intricate situation. They've actually designed a sort of cyber treasure hunt, and have told the fans in the USA, Canada, Australia and the UK that they will have to work together to find the clues and build more websites. Sponsors have webpages that participate with only a tiny little logo buried somewhere in it (Monster.com, Jeep, Sprite etc.) Bad Twin was really published and some think the writer is really Steven King. "Hanso Corp" has a 'news' article running next to the ad for Bad Twin stating that they are unhappy with how Hanso has been protrayed in the book and want it recalled. Anyway, it goes on and on and I can't remember a tenth of what they've got out there to cater to fans.

Art show, I bid on one piece but couldn't compete for it in the art auction. Suzi Lovett had two new prints I bought (one SG1 and one BL.) Zines, I got one AS&J, about 7 SG1s, one h/c mulitmedia and one Boston Legal (which I've read and I can reccommend (most of the stories have the same sweet, affectionate tone the series has.)

Door decoration. We did a Lost theme called Hurley's Revenge, based on that moment when Sawyer taunts Hurley one time too many and gets tackled into his tent. Sawyer's campsite was littered with all the Dharma food, the drugs his stockplied, empty water bottles and mini alcohol bottles, not too mention a representation of a boar, a polar bear and lots of frogs (one that even croaked when you squeezed it's tummy.) Oh, we also had a cd on continuous play that had surf sounds on it. I'll post some photos of it when they get back from being developed. And we won Best in Show for it all. The best part, as always though, is hearing all the giggling and flash photography outside our door for days on end. The best one we did was that Highlander one where we supplied the sword and painted a lightning display on a blue cloth and a headless body on the floor. The idea was that you could take a photo of you receiving a quickening. People had tons of fun with that one.

The trip home was smooth despite my worrying and being routed through Cincinatti and Atlanta before getting home to Southern California. I was quite sleep deprived and have been catching up with many naps for the last two days. I'm not as young as I used to be and can't abuse myself so outrageously anymore.

Oh, the vids! The show was much shorter than usual but I really enjoyed the selections. The one vid I helped on (the gen Boston Legal) had a good reception so I'm happy. Again, there was a nice smattering of many fandoms which is much nicer than when one fandom swamps the show. Very well done.

Okay, gotta go and take a nap. I'm back to work tonight. :(
