Jun. 4th, 2006 10:39 pmBathroom remodeling, the new toilet, skunk and cat stories.
We had planned for the bathroom floor to be replaced before I went to MediaWest. But, as usual in dealing with these manly professions, it didn't happen on time. It was supposed to happen on Tuesday, but they said it'd be Wednesday. Instead of Mom driving me to the airport on Wed., I booked a limo for a tidy amount of money. Usually they send a towncar, but this time it was a stretch limo and the guy actually backed it up the driveway. I really wish I would have seen that! And of course, the workers did not come that day, either. Nor on Thursday. Friday they showed to say that they were putting it off, but somehow Mom's comment of 'but you're all here with all your equipment' encouraged them to do it then. The bottomline is that it's done and done well. There was some issue with the toilet's drain pipe that required a plumber to show up (which they did in a timely manner) but the new toilet went in and the new vinyl was put down. I'm very happy with the results. We still need to replace the sink and do the whole painting thing. Later....
The Toto toilet is amazing. There isn't much water in it, but it flushes really really well no matter how much volume is added in. In fact, it disappears so fast it's like there's a trapdoor or something (there isn't.) It's really quiet, too. This thing will NEVER overflow and I'm overjoyed. I suppose it seems a little weird to be praising a toilet, but after years of being terrorized, it's joyous occasion. *g*
Today, I cleaned out part of the pantry because the miller moths are everywhere. I found a few things they've burrowed into and thrown them out. The house will be tented for termites in little over a week and boxes, bagged items and open containers will have to be bagged to protect the contents. I have a big liquor cabinet of a lot of half opened bottles, so I threw about 6 of em out so far. And I pruned/hacked back a few plants as the termite people say they need one foot of clearance around the buildings. I still have a couple more plants to attack and I need to dig up a big California Iris that's up against the house. It needed to be reduced anyway, but jeeze, it's been over 100 here the past few days and will continue to be so.
Last night, there's this one skunk that's pretty relaxed. He comes up to the door and waits for his peanuts. The cat pushed a hole in the screen door and I was handing the skunk peanuts through the hole. They really are very cute critters. Oh, Mom told me she opened the door to bring in Brindle and she felt fur rub against her ankles; it was that skunk walking past her to the peanut container and walking out again. It really is all about attitude. A calm attitude is good for all involved.
As I said, it was hot today. We managed to get Brindle in about noon and we wanted him to stay in during the hottest part of the day. I didn't play fair. I opened up one of those cat blankets soaked in catnip that I bought at MediaWest and Brindle fell on it and soon collapsed in a drunken stooper and stayed that way til 5pm. Then he helped me with the yard work, was very affectionate but then he bit me again, on the hand/arm and the breast. He's in the dog house and I haven't seen him since I expressed my unhappiness with his actions.
Scooter is thinner and more frail. Reggie could be having twinges of discomfort but we're not sure enough to take him to the vets and put him through all the tests they will want to do. Mom is good, as am I. And we'll continue to be good as long as the A/C holds up.

Date: 2006-06-07 12:30 am (UTC)LOL - love the skunk news. How cute!
Fingers crossed for your babies. I hear you about the a/c!
I took a good look at "Seymour", and have figured out that it is the flower or whatever of some sort of short staghorn palm, because now I'm seeing a few more of them in situ. They still look pornographic.

Date: 2006-06-07 05:32 am (UTC)Well, of course not. If construction/etc. workers ever showed up on time the universe would come to an end. It's an inherent law of nature. (I know someone who was getting her patio re-poured last week; same story.)
LOL about Brindle and the catnip blanket. Good luck with your babies; sorry they're having some problems. {{{hugs}}}

Date: 2006-06-08 01:34 am (UTC)So, miller moths are little mothy things, adult versions of the bugs that get in flour etc? I've thrown out stuff before because of them, but I didn't know what they were called.I just went 'EEwww.'
Least the weather is cooler now, which felt fantastic after flapping back from Las vegas yesterday. Jesus christ, it was hot!
You must take some more skunk and possum pictures, preferably with peanuts!
