Well, I knew this would be one of the Danieless eps and I was prepared to focus on other things. In the opening scene, I found myself watching Vala and her reactions to the briefing. CB really keeps in character at all times. I wondered about Vala's fidgeting but came to the conclusion that for someone who'd been host, the slow grind of a bureaucracy
must be tedious and grating. Perhaps her bouncing and running about is in reaction to the forced inaction of being a part of the SGC, which couldn't be more different from her previous impetuous behaviors? Her assimilation continues to intrigue me.

Mitchell and Carter are in blue BDUs, and Teal'c and Vala are in black shirts. I noticed in the last couple eps, they always dress Mitchell and Carter in the same colors, and pair Vala and Daniel in a different color. Are they trying to give the viewer the impression that Carter and Mitchell are a pair? Or are they trying to hint at division within the team? And rather than just have Vala different from the rest of SG1, why pair her with Teal'c this time?

And those Ba'al jokes kept coming, didn't they? And Ba'al! As handsome as he is clever and bold and masterful. He is a pleasure to watch and actually, it is in character that he can defeat the SGC with one of his plans. He's an excellent villain.

I thought the NID was either out of grace or dismantled? Color me surprised at their arrival here.

Mitchell's admission that he can't control his team was delightful. It spoke of insight on Mitchell's part. And Landry's reply "Who Does?" is so different from what he would have said one year ago. I like this Landry a lot more.

Cater looked seriously pissed as she got her P-90 from Mitchell after he took it away from Vala. I don't think she likes Vala on SG1.

On planet, Vala immediately proved that she is useful on this particular mission, and demonstrated that her plans are effective. She should have coordinated with Mitchell though. She'll have to learn this.

Vala said "You can thank me later, btw." Sam looked just as pissed at Vala as she did last season at Cambo's antics. While Vala and Carter *are* working together, I'm thinking things won't be relaxed and friendly between them for a long time, if ever. I think Carter is jealous of Vala's long hair. *g*

Capturing all the Ba'als so easily was just not plausible, but when one finds out that that was necessary for Ba'als plans, it makes sense. I wonder if Daniel would have clued in that it was all too easy? And twenty Ba'als? Oh my gawd! I loved the different interrogation techniques, even though they were ineffective. I wonder what track Daniel would have taken?

Carter and Agent 'Malcolm' Barrett. Jeeze, Carter's love life comes back to bit her in the ass, doesn't it? And that's precisely why her flirting with everything isn't very professional. Messy, messy, messy.

Vala and Teal'c arm wrestling! I love it! The aliens are bonding and having fun! Interesting that they are ex First Prime and ex Gou'ald and they've worked past that. We haven't really seen Vala and Teal'c bond before this, have we? Teal'c likes Vala, and we know this by how the actors are filling in those unscripted details. I think Vala is on Teal'c's fast track to be liked because Daniel likes her and Teal'c would do anything for Daniel.

Carter gives Ba'al the access codes with barely a protest. Maybe if Ba'al has said 'please' she wouldn't have made him ask twice? Sheesh! That was embarrassing! And we did get a gulp, too. Maybe Sam made the download go slower, but honestly, the Sam of Season 1-3 would have been disgusted by this Sam's performance and lack of creativity in blocking Ba'al's request. Carter is ineffective. And when Carter hears all the Ba'als are grouping together, she just runs off. Hello? How about communicating with Mitchell? Is her run through the hallways really any different from Vala's run through the forest early? Then she goes to stand -- without cover or a weapon -- into the room that has 20 or more armed and dangerous Ba'als. Is this to show us she is fearless? Unfortunately, it just seals the opinion that she shouldn't be let out without a keeper! And just when I was begining to like Sam again. Could the writers have destroyed her character any further in this one episode?

Why is there a pattern of light on Barrett's table? Is there a skylight down at Level 28? Too bad about Barrett being brainwashed.

So, Carter apologies and Landry says, "You did the right thing." Why did the dynamics of their body language come across like Carter knew she was going to be forgiven just that easily for her error? Is it because she's a general's daughter? Or because in some AU's she's sleeping another general? Carter didn't even look that upset that she'd screwed up so badly. What I did find fascinating what Teal'c's and Vala's expressions. After Landry said, "You did the right thing," the two looked at each other and Teal'c bowed. That usually acknowledges something or someone. I'd tend to read this exchange as they had expected Landry to forgive Carter's mistake, and I'm thinking it's not a mistake either of them would have tolerated in their previous positions. Why would they have expected this? Have they talked about the dynamics of the Tau'ri, noticed that Carter gets away with rather big mistakes? Has Teal'c been given her classes on what to expect, and what to ignore? Would Hammond have said the same thing? Would Hammond have said the same thing if it had been Daniel or Jack who'd given up sensitive information? It seems like I remember him taking someone to task but I can't remember right now where it was.

So, I found this episode to be entertaining and give me fodder for thought.

Okay, the 200th ep does look like it's crackfic. I've been dreading this one because I hated Wormhole Extreme. The 200th at least has the main characters in it, and as it looks totally bizarre, I'm actually upping my expectations a tad. Fingers crossed, eh?

Sateda

Poor, poor Rodney! He really got to scream like a girl after he got shot. But you know, as ridiculous as he looked limping towards the gate, shooting frantically behind himself to cover his own six, that is exactly what I'd be doing, too! All of Rodney's scenes were great, be him high on morphine, working on his stomach, or fighting with Carson over who should go rescue Ronan. I adored those two taking the jumper down and blowing away the bad guy, and Ronan's hugging of Carson afterwards.

To be truthful, I'm not all that smitten with Ronan and didn't find his backstory that interesting. Ronan holding a knife on himself reminded me too much of Blazing Saddles and I just couldn't take the rest of the show seriously. It really, REALLY threw me out of my willing suspension of disbelief. I didn't like all the cat and mouse action or the fighting engagements in 'wonderful' SFX glory. The big buff Warlord Wraith looked like he was a hold over from the Road Warrior film. I have to wonder, if this ep wasn't written by Cooper and directed by Cooper, would Bridge had spent all the bucks in the slow motion Matrix-y homaging? This was too much of a 'guy' episode for me. But I did love the Rodney stuff.

Yep, the Rodney scenes were highly entertaining. I know a lot of folks like Ronan, but I find JM's acting style a bit too over the top for me. But, I'm glad so many people liked the ep that highlighted his character.

Oh yeah. I really expected to hear that Sam had sabotaged the disk she gave to Ba'al. I can't believe she did exactly what he requested she do. Unbelievable.

I liked the atlantis episode even if it was ROnan based. It was good to see more of him, cause since last year when he appeared was like hey I'm a runner and I won't tell you anything more... Now I have more information, it's not that interesting but makes me see the carachter different. And well Rodney full of Morphine was a blast :p

And about Sam, I hope this was just a little misunderstanding and they don't turn her stupid from now on.
