I found this site and found it informative. It only costs 1 cent per hour to run a house fan. The microwave is 1 cent per 5 minutes. I would have thought it was more than that. And it's 10-14 cents per pot of coffee.

And because the universe does hava a sense of balance, in the last 2 days I got a $150 gift card from Lowes, $108 voucher from the Microsoft Antitrust Settlement, and 2 friends I shared a room with at Comic Con decided I over paid my share of the room. This is so much better than last month's cash super sucker events.

It is obviously much more than 1 cent per hour to run a room air conditioner. I just got my electric bill for 2 months and it was $125. Sigh.... Fortunately, I'm not using it much this week.

$14 for 175 hrs/mo (in the summer) $55 for 700 hrs/yr 7-10 ยข/hour

So, that's 5.8 hours a day. Right.

We've set our temp to be 76, and it turns on at 9:30am and goes unti 7pm if it's hot enough. So, "$44 for 7 hrs/day (in the summer)" is more like 10 hours or more like $66 a month. Hmmm....our bill goes up by $100/month at least during the summer. Maybe it's better as a comparison chart? Still, I we've been using the fans more and the bill did go down.

Good thing I wasn't home for a week. When it was really hot, I ran the thing from about 4 p.m. until the next morning when I went to work, and on the weekends I started it at about 11 a.m. I did that for about two weeks. Gaaah! And I used the fan too. But my a/c (chosen by my landlord to be the cheapest he could find) is not enough BTUs to actually cool the room properly and also has no thermostat or timer, so I pretty much just have to run it all the time in order to get any cooling :-(

LOL! I thought you meant 'us' as in fan, fen etc. I was thinking, 'hey! I'm worth more than that. Well, more than a cup of coffee anyway...

Just before I posted I thought, "oh, I should do something witty with the word fan." Then I hit the send button. *g* What a lack of creativity....
