Remember that persistent skunk and how he wanted to come in and be our new kitty? Yep, he tried! I worked the last three nights and apparently Mom wasn't a good door monitor and "Jerry" snuck inside on Tuesday night. She could hear him under her bed in the night and the cats were upset and hissing. So, today when I woke up, I thought I heard something. I got up and stood in the crossroads and wondered where he was. The skunk came trotting out of the front room, turned left in front of me and headed towards the kitchen. Huh. So, I got the broom and kept me headed the other direction, blocking off escape routes until I had him corraled under the table near the patio door. At that point, he found a plastic bag that had old bubblewrap in (to reuse) and he thought that was just the greatest thing. Popping bubbles and burrowing around and around, until he had it right and he settled down for a nap. Eventually, hours later when it got dark and the other skunks came out to eat all the peanuts we'd thrown outside, he just walked out. I jumped up and slid the door shut. The skunk whirled about looking quite indignant. Heh heh heh.

So, I'm very relieved. We were planning on an overnight stay at a friend's house and I didn't see how we could go and leave three cats inside with a skunk. I didn't want to come back to find the house unihabitable. But, now it's all good. Life is good.

I was thinking that, too. It's ripe with lessons about tolerance, uniqueness, prejudice. And the illustrations would be so cute. *g* Snooty cats....

I think you're just being cat-centric in refusing the poor skunk into your house, how cruel ;-)

At this point I figure you should open a wild life preserve, seems like you at least have the beginnings of one ;-)

I know. Cutiepie the raccoon came by tonight, too. The skunk thinks it makes perfect sense to move in. It was so adorable admidst a 'nest' of bubblewrap, gently snoring.

But, I REALLY need to fix that hole in the screen.

The visuals on this are just too cute. Poor Jerry! Maybe if he had a little something removed...? Although, the kitties would still not be happy campers, I know. Good luck - now that he's been in once, he likes it ;-)
