SGA: The Return Very nice! Excellent ep. Martin Gero did a great job. There were bits for all the characters that really highlighted them well. McKay was firing on all cylinders (I prefer him competent to buffoonish), Sheppard being proactive, Weir being passionate and Carson was really cute worrying about his wee baby turtles. I do wonder what he was going to say before Rodney ridiculed him for being emotional. Bad Rodney! Heh, Rodney has gotten addicted to saving the day, it sounds like.

Jack though...the energy and weight RDA brings to the role is so different than it used to be. He's Jack lite, with no sense of the special ops, crafty and deadly soldier he used to be. It's kind of sad to see him now. Though, it will be interesting to see in what condition and situation the team find him in in part two. Dare I hope he's held his own and is not just waiting to be rescued? I did like that General O'Neill's standing orders involved a nuke. That is always his bottom line, isn't it? *g*

I like the gate bridge thingy. Did I detect that the clamps on the gates were different with the ones on the Milky Way gate placed so the inner ring could rotate and the Pegasus clamps placed to hold the whole surface since those gates don't rotate? Nice detail. Nice shot of the Milky Way through both gates.

It was very fun to see Megan Leitch again; I quite liked her as an actress. I liked the twist that the rightful owners returned and took their city back (and they look quite likely to lose it due to their arrogance.)

Liked the Ronan Sheppard hug, wondered about Ronan and Teyla setting up house so to speak, as Ronan staying with Teyla's people seemed to be just to be with her.

I was a bit shocked that Sheppard shot two of our guys point blank with a zat. Ye gads, that just seemed a bit vicious.

Can I just say "ewww" to the ribbed front panels on the replicator/ancient uniforms? Ewww.

I'm really looking forward to the next ep.

The Quest: What a fun, well balanced, exciting episode! Delightful. Mallozzi has written another good script. Huh.

Great begining. Very interesting interaction between the boys. Okay, after thinking this over, I now think that Mitchell might have chided Daniel for working so hard; that would explain Daniel's flip/sarcastic answer that he's looking to save the universe, said in a way like he was throwing the words back at Mitchell. I think they had a spat and Teal'c is trying to get them past it. Mitchell wants dinner, but Teal'c insists they invite Daniel even though Mitchell knows he'll refuse and be pissy about it. When Daniel invites them to look at the computer screen, Teal'c insists they look because it's important to support and believe in Daniel. I don't think Mitchell is 100% with that program yet. Teal'c always listens to Daniel. Teal'c stopped Mitchell from leaving because if Mitchell doens't pay attention to Daniel, they aren't an effective team. I guess Teal'c is still training Mitchell. *g*

Vala was delightful and I loved her running to Daniel to tell him her dream. That gel thing for her face and her hair dryer later are pretty funny. Since she's no longer a gou'ald, I wonder if she's seen signs of aging and it bothers her?

The new credits made me smile with Vala running up to join the team. I know there are some folks here that don't care for Vala, but I'm tired to feeling guilty that I like her character. I enjoyed her persistence in wanting to steal the map. She brings energy and livens things up and she makes me smile and laugh.

I thought the villagers and curator's speech was a bit pat and cartoonish, but that's a small quibble. The book burning was offensive and I wondered why the curator didn't show up to protect his charges, but I imagine that Adria was impersonating him from the get go. And I liked the serving woman; she was smart and resourceful. I was a little taken aback that she fired first; was that part of the plot? Mallozzi likes the ticking clock thing, maybe shooting the soldiers was done just to turn up the heat (as was the earthquakey type of ruckus when they are solving the word puzzles later one.) It didn't seem to make sense that these things happened.

I like that Carter used a skill that's within her realm to solve the temporal field maze thing, and that Daniel solved the box/charity test (and did you notice that Daniel held his gun on Ba'al much longer than the others did?) And that was a eww-ick moment with Ba'als knife. Finally the writers remember their backstory (as least as far back as season 4.)

Daniel carries his pack the entire episode. Odd. Very nice he sussed out Adria. That was an odd look Carter gave Daniel when Adria threatened him. It looked like she couldn't understand why Daniel would be worth threatening. So Daniel has truth of spirit. Of course he does! And he seemed to be calling the shots a lot on this episode, too. I squeed with delight when Daniel pointed out that justice=right does not relate since the clue was in Ancient and that correlation between the concepts doesn't exist in Ancient. Nice! As was Daniel speaking Ancient. I just love him using his established skills. Mitchell and Teal'c reason out two of the riddles. I don't really understand how Adria came up with the third answer, but getting through these tests was a group effort.

Carter saying Ba'al and Adria should get a room. That was really funny.

But Daniel deciding that Faith was the answer and just walked through that wall of flames? That was pure gold. Sweaty, determined, brilliant and beautiful, he was awesome. It's these moments that make this show special and admirable and put the spotlight on just how wonderful a character Daniel is. And when Daniel said, "the only virture left is faith," Teal'c was the only one to react and he jerked his head away. He *knew* what Daniel was about to do and he couldn't watch. Teal'c has total faith in Daniel. What a cool moment.

What's the one thing SG1 has never had and really needs? Yep, a fire-breathing dragon! I don't know why that tickles me, but it does. I only wish the back legs had been more thin and short and reptilian rather than having the same dimesions of a man's legs. Loved the leathery wings though!

I guess trying to take the sangral alerted the dragon and that they have to say the dragon/guardian's name to control it? Maybe after they defeat the dragon they can get the sangral.

As far as cliffhangers go, this was pretty mild. I mean, I really want to see the next ep, but at least our heroes aren't facing certain death.

This was very entertaining and I've watched it a few times already. I guess I'm going to have to dl the British broadcasts because I can't wait to see the next ep!

----I now think that Mitchell might have chided Daniel for working so hard----
Oh, that makes sense! I especially liked how Teal'c stopped Mitchell. I love how we're actually seeing Teal'c actively supporting Daniel this season, it's wonderful.

----I don't really understand how Adria came up with the third answer, but getting through these tests was a group effort.---

I thought it was because she can read ancient, so she finished the part Daniel couldn't and got the answer to the riddle.

----I was a little taken aback that she fired first; was that part of the plot?---
I thought she fired first because she was smart and resourceful and figured out that SG-1 needed some 'element of surprise' help to get out of the mess and escape. Without her firing, someone would have died or been ingured. Well, someone we cared about ::grin::

I missed both of these:
---That was an odd look Carter gave Daniel when Adria threatened him. It looked like she couldn't understand why Daniel would be worth threatening---and ---- was the only one to react and he jerked his head away --

Darn, guess I'll just have to go watch it again!

-----Sweaty, determined, brilliant and beautiful, he was awesome. It's these moments that make this show special and admirable and put the spotlight on just how wonderful a character Daniel is. ---

You've got it, in a nutshell. That's our Daniel.
