Work has been exhausting and I've felt unappreciated and am tense about dangerous situations, enough so to be quite irritable in a reply to the boss' email. There's to be a meeting with the whole staff....

So, I came home on Thursday morning and felt exhausted and as Mom was tired and didn't want to eat, we put the bird back in the fridge and went to bed. We had soup and cornbread for dinner.

Friday, I got up and set the holiday meal in motion (pushing buttons on the new stove with some success.) Mom stayed in bed and had two *very* small meals. I pestered her to drink more but she is quite stubborn at times. In the end, only me and Reggie had much turkey and I put everything away in tupperware. Scooter spent the day throwing up. He was hungry but about 10 mins after eating, it would all come up. He did have a furball on Thursday apparently, so maybe there's more down there. He's extremely thin already from the chronic renal failure so something like this is not good.

Today, Mom was very weak and starting to get a bit confused. This evening we went to the Kaiser ER for 3.5 hours. They tested bits of her and gave her a liter of fluid which perked her right up and antibiotics for a spot of pneumonia. She's not been coughing so I was a bit surprised. After the liter of fluid, she is much stronger and walking better so they let her come home where I foisted more turkey off on her and we watched Ugly Betty. Hopefully, she will continue to eat and drink and get stronger. As for Scooter, I think he has finally kept down some dinner tonight, though I must peer about looking for kitty vomit to be sure he's on the mend.

Reg on the other hand has set his cap to eat all the turkey he can. The last two times I fed him, he demanded seconds *and* thirds! A cat has to have ambitions, I guess.

It's been a very tiring and worrisome few days but hopefully things will be better tomorrow, even though it's back to work for another 3 nights (and me with a bad attitude.) Oh joy.

So sorry to hear of all your problems. I definitely know what it's like to have both work problems (like, when DON'T I?), and mom worries as well. My mom gets dehydrated amazingly quickly, gets mentally fuzzy just as quickly, and also perks right up after fluids and electrolytes. It's spooky. I'm glad your mom is feeling better. I've heard before of people having pneumonia with almost no symptoms; I don't understand it either.

I'm just hoping I haven't torn a shoulder muscle/tendon. Owww...

What did you do to your shoulder? Was it wrestling the TV? A few years ago when my tv died, the one I really wanted to buy would have been dropped off at the bottom of the hill and weighed over 200 pounds. I opted for the more expensive plasma that would be installed by the delivery people. It's been a good tv so it all worked out in the end.

I've been trying to get her to drink more but she just makes a face and swallows a few ounces.

Between wrestling the huuuge old 27" monster to the floor (75 lbs???), carrying the 40 lb. new TV upstairs, and then yesterday the printer, I guess it was "something's gotta give" - and my left arm did. I started noticing it on the way to buy the printer, and by the time I'd carried the printer upstairs - OWW. It was scary bad Saturday and yesterday (couldn't lift an empty coffee cup) so I used Aspercreme, Tiger Balm patches and heat (not all at the same time!) and it seems *slightly* better today, so fingers continue to be crossed. It's still clicking and popping :-(

I knew that if I bought a 'regular' TV, they would have to deliver it, at a cost of $75, and it would take about 10 days to get it delivered (no TV for that long would make me insane), so I bit the bullet and bought a 26" LCD, which at least I could carry. Sort of..... ;-( It's not Sony quality and it's not plasma quality, but it's an improvement over the 20 year old model ;-)

I gently nag my mom a lot via phone to drink fluids. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sigh...

Good luck!

So sorry you've been having those work problems, and that your mother has been so ill! I'm glad to hear she's much improved by her visit to Kaiser.

LOL! One of my cats, Roshi, is pretty indifferent to food, unless it's beef. Then he acts like a ravening wolf!

Thank you. :)

Why do I picture a feral Roshi stalking and bringing down a cow all by himself? *g*

Reg just demanded seconds. *g* He's such a little junky when it comes to fresh turkey.

Oh boy! He'd love to do that!

There was a neighbor cat on the patio outside awhile back. The glass door was open, the screen door was closed. Cloud, the coward, was hiding behind the laundry on the futon. He'd peek over once in awhile. But Roshi - considerably smaller than Cloud - was right up at the screen door, right in the face of the other cat, grring and hissing as loud as he could. (The effect was spoiled somewhat by the fact that he's a flat-faced cat, and regularly has to sneeze or schnuff, just like a runny-nosed kid, which isn't exactly an aggressive "I'm gonna kill ya!" sound.)

The other cat just looked puzzled at these mixed messages.

>>>Reg just demanded seconds. *g* He's such a little junky when it comes to fresh turkey.

They all have their own addictions. Roshi is a fiend for beef, Pele loves chicken and Cloud loves tuna.

What 'dangerous situations'were you talking about? Did i miss something? If it was news related i probably did, as I haven't been watching.
Glad your Mum's better..what set her off being poorly? Has she been partying while you've been at work?!
'Dexter' was good tonight, the new boyfriend has appeal, and I liked the prosthetic angle. (I don't think I spoiled anything there!)

Just those nimrods thinking the NICU therapists are lazy primadonnas.

Mom's continues to improve. I'm not what sure what happened. My half baked theory is that she caught a mild virus and stayed in bed long enough to develop some atelectasis, which occured the day I took her to the ER. She started having a lot of fever and chills for the next two days before the ABX kicked in.

I still haven't seen Dexter. Tonight we'll watch it together. I guessed that the sister's date is the icebox killer. Delicious!
