I don't know you well enough to know what you'd enjoy most :).

I've been to Banff and Lake Louise and thought they were *fabulous*- did a bunch of hiking nad walking, admiring the colors of the lakes and looking at glaciers.

I've never been on a cruise (and probably won't- I like to be fairly active on vacation).

Paying off credit cards is A Very Good Thing, generally.

What have your three favorite vacations ever been like?

Both trips are on the short list, though Banff has been on the list a lot longer than the Baltic.

Last year we did our first cruise, to Alaska. We did the land tour part through Denali and up to Fairbanks. Seeing the wonderful landscape, the wild animals doing their thing...that was pretty awesome. And living on the ship turned out to be pretty nice. We were off the ship each day doing all sorts of things. It wasn't as boring/lazy as I assumed it would be.

In 1982, I went with my brother and a friend for six weeks through Britain. Possibly the best adventure ever. We rented a car and went from Dover to the Orkneys to Barra to Wales and Cornwall and all points in between. Lots of castles, stone circles, pubs, walks in the woods, and museums.

Third might have been when we drove from California to Colorado Springs, riding all the steam trains we could find and stopping at all the National Parks along the way.

Banff as all that natural beauty and would be less expensive. The Baltic trip would be stopping at all the capitals of the Scandinavian countries, going to see the wonders of St. Petersburg, staying on a cruise ship (and I'd be going with Mom who has trouble walking any distance) and stopping off in London to visit some friends.

Paying off the credit cards. Yes, that's admirable and even necessary, but at 50, I'll never be any more fit than I am now. I feel like if I was responsible and paid off my debt first, I'll never go anywhere else that's a major adventure.

What time of year were you at Banff and how long did you stay there?
