I didn't care much for this one. You know that 20 pieces of personal canon that's going around? One of them would be to delete this episode from canon because:

1. A total waste of Vala back story. The writers were going for comedy but her back story should not be comedy. She was a host. Does not her daddy care? Obviously not. He's worthless as a father figure and also quite toxic. There's no point to his character except to provide focus to the Landry storyline. I didn't mind the Landry part of the story and said, "About time!" to resolve an issue that was introduced day one with that character. It was rather uninspired resolution but at least it had some screen time.

2. For their third to last episode, this was a total waste of time and money. Even if they hadn't been canceled, how can the producers justify spending resources on this?

3. I couldn't care less about the scams and the deals. I'm certainly not going to spend my valuable time discussion why this whole set up made NO sense whatsoever.

4. I like Daniel. I like Vala. Honestly, their mugging for the camera was OTT. I realize the actors believed they were in a comedy and tried to act for that end, but the humor was flat and cruel, leaving them looking a tad bit embarrassing. Oh, I really hated Daniel's glasses in this episode.

5. Yes, there's the Mallozzi humor again. Ridiculing normal folk, cruelty disguised as humor, tired old situations and clichéd dialogue. Was it remotely possible that this crap was a fit for the Vala character? Not at all. Not that Malousy gives a damn. He doesn't understand character integrity and I feel so very sorry for the fans that give a crap about SGA.

6. The ending with Teal'c in the "Virginia Monologues." I've never seen the play. Nevertheless, my "a male is mocking females" radar went off. Besides, Teal'c is a courageous man, patient and regal. My ideal of Teal'c wouldn't have cowered in his seat because of a few words. Blah.

Was there anything I liked? Yes. Daniel and Mitchell in leather jackets. The Van Gogh in Vala's quarters. Meeting Kim.

This has nothing to do with anything in this entry (though I agree, except for the better resolution of Lam/Landry/Kim, this episode was forgettable).

I was rereading some fics over at "bunnyfic" recently. Are you the "tenaya" from there? With the story about Daniel marrying the two marines? That tale is so cute. Poor Daniel "molested" and...the worst thing was he didn't get to see any of the action on all the betting! (though at least he gets a free meal)

Just a random "drive-by" fic feedback for something that put a smile on my face after my client just ditched our scheduled meeting and we have to reschedule *again*.

Yeah, that was me. I wrote that one for that zine that was a wedding gift for a fan named Beth. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. It always gives me a goofy grin when I think of it. Thanks for the drive-by. :)

The episode should have just been named "Cliches of the Mallozzi Kind". However, my bigger rants fall on the season finale, not this one. But I don't know how much you've seen, so I won't spoil.

I just skimmed looking for the D/V scene people were either cheering or kicking to the curb. From the visuals, I know how the team got out of their fix. And I wanted to see the last shot of the series. I am very curious to read your opinions on it. Something to look forward to.

"Cliches of the Mallozzi Kind". Heh heh heh. Why is it I liked Jack and his cliches but want to condemn Mallozzi to working forever in a fry room of a KFC for his? Mallozzi is just plain meanspirited.

Jack's cliches are usually not so much of the stereotypical, but situational type. He uses them usually to either make sense of a situation or to de-fuse or confuse a [potential] enemy. RDA usually manages to make it look more like Jack isn't laughing too much at other people which makes his cliches work better.

Mallozzi makes stereotypes and then sits back on his high horse and laughs at them. He has a typical guy sense of humor - low, vulgar and slapstick. He has little to no respect for women as far as I can tell. Typical Madonna or Medusa syndrome. For all he says he loves Sam, the character is a charicature of the typical soppy love interest/super babe dichotomy most men come up with because they can't write strong women well.

Of course, my opinion of Mallozzi's writing is pretty much along the "PLEASE LET SOMEONE ELSE WRITE THIS STORY!!!!" lines.

Heh...opinions I have plenty...

Yes, there's the Mallozzi humor again.

Malozzi's humor runs more towards The Three Stooges, which I have never liked and don't really understand how anyone can find very funny. Humor for 12 year-old boys--just like this episode. Almost a total waste.
