Comic Con report
Jul. 28th, 2007 10:41 pmI'm back home, safe and sound. Mom heard on the news that there would be over 100,000 at the con on Saturday. But you know, it didn't seem as crowded as Friday...and I can tell you why--they were all up in a line waiting to get into the Heroes panel. My plan was to get to the Heroes panel two hours early, but the line went clear around the building til the end was close to touching the beginning. And I thought, "there's no way in hell I'm gonna be able to get in there." I see there is an article here that hints at what I missed, darn it:

While I'm mentioning websites, SciFi has the SGA panel up here:

So, I went to the room where the Supernatural panel would eventually be held. I saw cartoonists doing a panel where they drew stuff really fast and it was surprisingly entertaining. Next was Laurel K Hamilton, and while I've read about ten of her Anita Blake books, I was divided in my opinion about her. A number of times I thought she was quite condescending to the fans, blunt and smug. It didn't really make me want to go and catch up with the books I've missed.
The Family Guy panel was quite entertaining and they showed clips of their season premiere which is a Star Wars take off. Pretty funny! I plan to watch.
Lastly was the Supernatural panel. Jared wasn't there. He apparently was up shooting SPN until 6am and missed his flight to San Diego. There really wasn't much for spoilers though. They mentioned that the girls would not be there for romance. That with a year to live, it wasn't hard to predict what Dean would be indulging in and he would be indulging in it a lot (and to tell you the truth, that's kind of a turn off for me.) Jensen was the only one who could answer what type of engine was in the Impala (and how else it had been suped up. The other's looked on admiringly and said, "Jensen is such a guy." They talked about how difficult it is to film the show (though it sounds like that is mainly to trying to stay within a very tight budget.) When asked about favorite eps, I think Jensen stated he liked the second season ender best. I took some photos, and some avis. I'll post the photos tomorrow as I'm beginning to fade.
After the panel, Deej and I decided to call it a day. Shanks and Judge were down at the Avatar booth signing autographs but as they were basically crammed in a corner and were charging $30 each, I figured I didn't need to go there and best to let those that haven't had the pleasure a chance. Earlier, the booth people had said, no photographs, and I doubt I'd have been able to sneak one as the crowds were packing us in shoulder to shoulder by this time. Deej had him sign something and she said he looked good, which is always nice to hear but hey, not that unexpected. *g*
We went back to my hotel, had a sandwich, I freed my hostage, er car, from their parking lot, left Deej at the airport and flew home in record time. Traffic was very light and it was a joy to let the car have its fun (that Subaru is such a blast to drive.)
Back home I discover that while the Sheraton did not double bill me (long story you don't want to hear) they probably have messed up. We charged breakfast to our room, and they put all the breakfast on my bill. We asked them to fix it by putting half the meal on each bill. I see online that aside from the initial charge, instead of removing $25, they've added $100. It's listed as pending so I suppose I need to wait until it goes through before I can complain. :::sigh::: I had a bad feeling about that, too.
And finally my good friend up north called and I FINALLY got to discuss the Harry Potter book with another fan! I had so much to say and was just really needing that conversation. *g*
Pics to tomorrow. Sleep for now.

Date: 2007-07-29 05:25 pm (UTC)Most of the questioners at the panel were guys, and I'd guess a fair amount of them were gay.

Date: 2007-07-30 06:42 am (UTC)Me too. :-( The whole business--not just sex, but also the whole eating thing--the overindulgence of self-indulgence.
Thanks for the report. :-) It's always fun to hear what it's like.

Date: 2007-08-07 12:24 am (UTC)You know, I just e-mailed you about Comic Con, and here it all is, so sorry about that. I've been off LJ for so long because of not wanting to read about HP stuff, that I forgot that you usually do a great con report.
About the hotel, you know it never occurs to me that they will screw it up...I shoudn't be so trusting it seems!
