So, here's the end of my weekend. Did I accomplish any of the vitally important tasks I really, really need to do?

No.

Boring crap:
Today I woke up with a sore throat and stuffy sinuses. So after having breakfast and feeding the kitties, back to bed I went. With me, if I get sleep deprived, I *will* get sick. It's something I picked up on a flight to London in 1983. I have been only sleeping 4 to 5 hours at a time for about ten days. Luckily, I managed a whole nine hours this morning! It was fantastic, but I was still having the "can't keep my eyes open" and "I just can't get warm" this morning so I went back to sleep for another four.

And now it's night and the weekend is shot.

At least I didn't get sick, eh? :)

Also, Brindle has decided he doesn't like any of his usual food. He sits in the kitchen saying "you know what I want and I'm getting really pissed you're not giving it to me!" until he gets frustrated enough to nip our legs. We bought him a roasted chicken; I just gave him some and he's eating. I hope this is just a phase. :(

ETA: I cleared off the last Boston Legal, the last three episodes of The War and the Texas Democratic Debate. It seemed to me that Clinton got a lot more spontaneous applause then Obama. He's better at prepared speeches but on the fly? Not so impressive. I dislike him more and more. I've had enough of politicians who are more concerned with their legacy and don't really love our country. I hate to say it but if the elections was between Obama and McCain tomorrow, I'd vote for McCain. He may do things I don't like but at least he loves this country. I think Clinton does, too.

Gah-- I hope you're feeling better today!

I'm disliking Obama more and more, too. I hope everyone left to vote is, too. I bet he wishes his minister would shut up.

His minister has preached this line of...dissent shall we say...for years. Obama has had to have heard it; him saying he hasn't is like Bill Clinton saying he never inhaled. The fact that Mrs. Obama said that her husband running for President is the "first time in her adult life that she's been proud of America" says it all for me. She's been sitting in the pew next to hubby. We need a president of ALL the people, not just one group. Race wars is the last thing we need at this point.

I'd have a lot more respect for him if he acknowledged the POV of his reverend and told us why he doesn't agree. He'd need a Barbara Walters interview amount of time to help us understand where he's at on this subject. The fact that he's inclined at times not to wear a flag pin, or put his hand over his heart during the national anthem demonstrates to me his personal agenda is more important than simple acts that show he *is* an American at heart. Wright doesn't like or respect this country. We're voted for the person that will guide this country through terrible times ahead. I want someone in the office whose heart will break if our country suffers.

I don't know what I was thinking. I forgot that the percentage of black racists is the same (or more) than white racists. Even if Obama is lily white innocent (yes, pun intended), it is likely many in his camp won't be.

Their reasons for black racism may be legit. They may have been downtrodden and sinned against. But spewing more fire and brimstone isn't the way to solve this country's problems. I think that a lot of people, like myself, who were trying to be colorblind in this election were just reminded of how this country really is. Unfortunate, but true.

*Sigh* Great, Hillary or McCain. I LIKE McCain--I just don't like a lot of the Republican policies from the past few years. And I'm afraid he'll be more of the same. The Republican party has come to mean intolerance on the conservative side to me.

Why can't we just all get along? :-/

We can try to get along and respecting each other helps. Hatemongering doesn't help reach a solution.

I hear Obama made a very good speech yesterday. I'll have to find it when I'm off work and see what he said. And as exhausting as this nomination system is, it does show us what these hopefuls are made of.

I work in a very racially mixed hospital where I'm frequently the token white person. *g* We've been discussing these elections and their effects from all these different viewpoints and it's all been relaxed. And I think it's fantastic that people *care* and are paying attention.

This country hasn't outgrown its racial problems. Tensions and gang wars (with a lot of bystanders getting killed) are heightened right now in the Greater LA area, particularly between the Hispanic and the Black communities. And you're right, there are plenty of racists in every group. It's a mess and pretending these tensions don't exist doesn't help the situation. I watched LA burn and smelled the smoke for three days. There were police blockades and we needed to have our ID badges ready to drive to work after curfew.

When I listen to the left wing radio station the last few days, the callers all agree that anyone who is against Obama is so because he's black. You can imagine how pissed that makes me. All those debates I watched, all the time I spent at each website comparing their views on the issues? That doesn't mean diddly; apparently total strangers can use their psychic powers and discern the truth about what I truly feel. That "race card" is SO overused.

And you're so right about intolerance being the default with the Republicans. The only reason that McCain could be viable to me is that I'm counting on Congress to have a lot more Democrats than Republicans and that should slow him down if he gets upto any shennanigans. The really hard part that still might get me to vote for Obama (assuming he really did a good job on that speech yesterday) is the whole Supreme Court thing. A lot of them are getting up there and the court is already too conservative. Would McCain try to push only conservative judges for replacements? I need to go to his website and see what he says about that. That's a deal breaker for sure if he would insist on trying to reverse Roe Vs. Wade. The fact that Eminent Domain was used to clear out four square blocks of homes and businesses so a Costco could be built frosts my cookies. This was only 5 blocks from my house.

Well, you know I'm still hoping for Clinton. But you should check out that speech of Obamas; maybe he's still a viable candidate and you won't have to feel blue. *g* And heck, the convention isn't until August. Still a lot of time left.

the callers all agree that anyone who is against Obama is so because he's black. Grrrrr. Like I said, there is as big a percentage of black racists as white ones. I have listened to more of Obama's and Clinton's speeches and plans than I have in any election in YEARS!

Here is the text of Obama's speech: http://tiny.cc/CHNuG

It is a very good speech. News reports this morning said that he wrote it himself. I do like and agree with many of the things he had to say.

Many people are saying he should back off from his minister--basically to "throw him under the bus." However, for someone who has been a friend for over 20 years, if Obama had done so, I wouldn't have believed him and would think he's doing anything he can to get elected.

I believe he brought up a lot of good points, and I was pleased to see that he DOES seem to understand how middle-class white folks can resent what we may see as reverse discrimination. I'm waiting to see if there's a backlash from the black community about "we have to take responsibility for our own lives."

It's a good speech. And it is also another good message of agreeing on things that are bad, with hope for a better future.

This might not have been the speech where he should give specific plans for what he intends to do to change the country. But debates and other speeches HAVE been. Where's the beef?

Wow! I think you and I will have lots to talk about in a couple weeks. And not ALL Stargate either! LOL Hopefully, Ark of Truth will come in the mail soon and I'll get to watch it this weekend. I know--I'm BEHIND!!!!!!!
