True Blood pilot and a trip to the fair.
Sep. 10th, 2008 10:33 pmI finally watched True Blood. I liked it for the most part. I'm hoping it will calm down a bit; pilots are usually pretty amped up. I like the supporting characters better than the leads. The two black characters are great. Tara's instant anger? That's what Brindle was like for years but he's better now. I don't find the main vamp that sexy; when he first walked in the bar, I thought he reminded me of a dead Keith Richards. And Anna Paquin's acting reminds me of a Blue Jay looking at a bug--she gets in the vamps face and cocks her head one way then another. Oh, oh! Kind of like those naked aliens from "One Small Step." *g* Anyway, I totally don't get the instant vibe between Bill and Sookie. I do like that Sookie can hear other people's thoughts.
If you like vampire shows, it's worth a look.
I forgot to tivo Fringe. And how could I after the intense promotion it was gotten? It repeats on Sunday so I'll pick it up then.
Oh, and we went to the fair today. I had a corn dog, lemonade and a scoop of ice cream. I bought a few things. Made Mom rent a scooter (I paid for it.) She was buzzing all around. The trouble was her eye would catch something and she'd go for it, sometimes doing a bumper car thing. Oops. And at the end of the day, the scooter was running out of power so I had to push it up that last underpass ramp. One lady offered to help but I passed because there wasn't enough space for two to push. And when I got to the top, the thing buzzed away from me. I told these two guys that had commented on it that I think she had the brake on and they about busted a gut laughing. Maybe a little drunk, are we???? *g*
And because she had the scooter we were able to get to the craft stuff under the grandstands. The quilts, the needle work, the cake decorations and table decorations were fabulous. There are some very talented people out there. One table was a Charlie Brown themed and they had a huge metal dog water bowl for a fruit bowl. *g* And there was a mermaid themed table that Bunny would have really liked.

Date: 2008-09-11 08:23 pm (UTC)Bones was excellent however, both the season pilot with "I hate London!" from Seeley, and then chugging beer at the end, having completely changed his mind. It wasn't a Guiness though.
I miss Zack, and now we have a new lab guy a week, until one sticks, but the two they've had so far have been pretty funny in an awful way, especially the girl this last week.
I've never been to the fair, but I may go this year, just to see the craft stuff. On a cooler day of course!

Date: 2008-09-11 08:35 pm (UTC)I haven't read the True Blood books yet. Too bad the characters aren't likeable even there! Which series was the Tanya Huff books called?
All the crafty things are under the Grandstand.

>>>Tanya Huff's books are much better IMO.
I just started reading those last month - they're fun! Do you have a favorite?
>>>Bones was excellent however, both the season pilot with "I hate London!" from Seeley, and then chugging beer at the end, having completely changed his mind. It wasn't a Guiness though.
Yes!! Great opening.
>>>I miss Zack
Ditto - what they did to his character just sucked.

LOL, yes.

Date: 2008-09-11 11:47 pm (UTC)It wasn't "bad", per se. But I walked away feeling kinda meh about it. I'll probably give it a couple more goes before I decide yes or no.
BTW, do you know if the female lead is the actress who played the VP aide/MS's girlfriend in "24" last season?

The starts of series are usually pretty rough and I also usually give them a few more eps to hit their stride. I have to say my flist is not a buzz with chatter about it.

Date: 2008-09-12 01:42 am (UTC)I was going to rewatch MS's 24 episode I still have on tape somewhere to see if it was her...and I may do it anyway, despite your prima facie evidence. ;-)
A friend of a friend on my flist gave a LOLspeak recap of the ep...which was surprisingly apt (and I can't stand LOLspeak normally).

Date: 2008-09-12 02:04 am (UTC)LOL, your description of True Blood. I don't get the pay movie channels, so.... I'm looking forward to The Mentalist, which starts in two weeks - and I was watching Eli Stone before it ended for the summer.

Date: 2008-09-12 09:14 am (UTC)ETA: They had all sorts of fried things--oreos, twinkies, avocados, White Castle burgers.... I resisted them all.
