It was a gloriously beautiful day. Warm, sunny and everything went perfectly. The train ride was a hoot (and we get to ride from Talkeetna to Denali tomorrow.) And Mt. McKinley was completely visible today from head to toe so we could see all 20,000 feet of her--apparently that only happens about 30% of the time, and lately only 10% of the time because it was raining here quite a bit. In fact, last week or so, they had to cancel a bunch of stuff because the rain/flooding washed out the tracks and roads. We are very, very fortunate.
We took a jet boat ride about 20 miles up a river, and there the guy, who had lived a subsistence lifestyle when he started up, gave us a talk about what that was like, pairing techniques with how the native people worked. A lady from Germany started to read him the riot act about how inhumane trapping and killing wild animals was. It started to get ugly and one of his employees who is Eskimo and still has relatives living that way got really ticked. Fun in the wilderness.
So we're here at this very nice hotel that has an awesome view of the mountains and we just sat and sat and watched the clouds change.
Oh, that's right, it's not all perfect. My camera with it's rechargable batteries decided it doesn't want to hold a charge for long. Missed some photo ops, but I now have some extra batteries. All in all, not much of a problem.
And Mom stayed awake all day today since she had her CPAP machine last night. What a difference!
Well, must go and see if the sunset has started. Such a busy schedule.... *g*
