On Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] deej1957 and her mom invited me and Mom to Fillmore to enjoy an evening of fun and MURDER!!! Once in Fillmore, we connected with Deej and mom and spent about 30 minutes watching the Christmas Holiday Train fill up with kids and their parents--the best was a kid, dad and granddad all in matching jammies. Male bonding!! And a train had just unloaded some Christmas trees so the whole town square smelled delightful.

On board our train, we were seated and served our dinner. The prime rib was extremely generous in size, the vegetarian meal got a good review, but Mom felt the salmon wasn't up to par. The train moved slowly out of town for a few miles, stopped and returned, the whole thing lasting about 3 hours. Meanwhile inside, the actors mixed with the diners. Suddenly, in a middle a holiday toast, Santa paused, looked suspicious, twitched a few times and died in the arms of a lovely and buxom diner. The clues turned out to be VERY subtle. There was the dangerous and edgy Jack Frost, who had blue and grey face paint on and icy sparkles over his suit, a gossip columnist, the captain, a Texas millionaire, a doctor, an old Hollywood dame and couple of loony elves. At the end, everyone wrote down who they thought did it. Amazingly, I guessed correctly and won a wooden train whistle. It was a hunch rather than anything solid but I was glad someone from our table won.

The train has different themes and I'm keen to go back and experience another scenario.

Yep. :)

I'm looking forward to going back when it's light out, but not too hot yet. I wish we'd gotten there earlier to shop at those Christmas booths, too.

Thank you for including us. :)

Oooh, I found out about this train this past summer and thought about taking my kids on it. That sounds like a lot of fun!

They do have family nights which is great. The one we went on what for over 18 only. And it seems like the family ones are a bit cheaper, though they only offer them about 3 or 4 times a year.

I've always wanted to do something like that! It sounds like a lot of fun.

So, have you used the whistle? You could see what the raccoons think of it...

I haven't used it yet. I do have a one just like it but much bigger I bought when we rode the Silverton Durango train. I toot it at New Years. Now we can do two together...in harmony. *g*

The coons aren't coming by as often. Soon after Thanksgiving they ceased their nightly visits. There have been a couple of nights where they've been by (they dance in the water bowls and leave them filthy) but I haven't seen them. This is the time of year when the moms tell their children to "GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!!!"

I imagine that is what has occurred. We seen the occasional lone coon but they are so skittish they wouldn't appreciate the whistle.

Love the visuals of dancing in the water bowls. Kinda like Snoopy?

Oh, that sounds like so much fun! Hee! I've always wanted to do that--well, either the dinner train or the murder mystery. Both together = win.

I'm glad you all had fun.

Ooh, fun! One of my all time favorite books is The Edge by Dick Francis, which takes place on a mystery train. I've always thought it sounded like fun.

I've been tempted to try that train before, just to ride it, as they do a lot of different trips at different times of the year. Glad to know your evening was a success. How long did it take you to get there?

It took us 90 minutes up there but we were in slow traffic around Pasadena. On the way back it was 75 minutes. Go up the 5 and turn left on the 126 just past Magic Mountain. The 126 is a very safe road now.
