We were going to go out to Quartzsite, AZ last Sunday for a overnight shopping trip to the gigantic swapmeet out there in the desert. But I got another of my sore throats and had to cancel. I feel a bit better today so we decided to do an overnight to a casino resort south of Laughlin later this week. They also have a rock and gem show going on which is what we were interested in out in Quartzsite.

In preparation of the trip, I took mom out today and got her a rollator (like this: http://www.northshorecare.com/rollators1.html ) This should help with her need to sit down every 40 feet as there is a seat on this contraption, and she should have more stamina.

It was dark when we got home and I had just sat down when a huge snap!CRASH! was heard. That eucalyptus tree that is barely inside the property and keeps shedding branches (usually landing on the fence and damaging it) lost the eastern half the tree. I'll have to take a photo of it tomorrow but by flashlight, there's a lot of tree laying on the ground up there. It was only last week that I finished cutting up the last widow-maker that fell. It just never ends....

At least I got to watch another funny episode of Top Gear. Jeremy tossing Richard over a horse, and James fearing for his virtue when his Rolls runs out of gas in front of a bunch of construction workers. :)

Eeek, you're lucky the whole tree didn't fall!

And that rollator thing looks pretty good. That might work for my mom rather than me pushing her around in a wheelchair at some places. Let me know how your mom likes it!

I sure will. Mom doesn't really like a wheelchair but she just has to sit down fairly often. But give her a shopping cart and a market place, she leaves me behind. *g* I have hopes this will help her.

She loved it! She never tired of shopping that day. She does need some practice at steering the thing because she keeps her eye on the target and goes for it, sometimes sideswiping stuff. The salesman had a point and I think it's true that it will build her stamina. Before, she would have to sit more often when walking. I think the leaning on the handles as she walks gives her legs less weight to carry thus making it easier to walk. It was a good choice. It didn't fit in the trunk of her car, though; it hast to go in the back seat area. And it takes up 2/3s of the hatch area of my Subaru.

That rollator looks great! Hope it works out for your mom. I've heard about how huge that swap meet is.

Yikes! re the eucalyptus! I was inside one day last year when I heard a big crash right outside the window - the big magnolia tree in my yard had lost one of its large branches. I definitely made a quick call to the tree people.

Was that tree you were going to get thinned? Did you get the tree removed or just the downed wood?

Clouds at Avi is a much more doable size. The vendors were all hurting though--not many customers and they weren't spending much.

I have asked my mom a bunch of times if she would like a rollator, and she keeps saying no, but I think it's more because she doesn't want me to buy it for her than because she doesn't want one. I think it would be very useful for her. Must keep trying....

Mom loved it. She was reluctant as it means that she admits to needing it, but it was actually freeing for her. She felt less tired.

Good luck.

Poor tree!
I thought you'd be off to the
'stars on ice' jamboree. Isn't that this week? Hope you have fun at the rock show though.

The rock show was good. I felt sick, I got my sore throat again, and a loose cough. And my period started. :(
I've been better. *g*

I think there's an ice skating thing on the 30 or 31st?
