I was browsing through the works of Patrick McGoohan and found that Disney had recently released Dr. Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. In fact, it was a limited release last November and it's already out of print with the price on ebay close to double of its release price. Snooze you lose. Anyway, better to buy it now because it will only go up in price. Interestingly, it's a 2 disk set, the first set being the three episodes originally televised and the second disk it the movie they cobbled together and is the version they rarely repeated on tv. Just a heads up in case you're interested.

I also found an old British film about corruption in a trucking company called Hell Drivers. It stars Stanley Baker, Patrick McGoohan, William Hartnell, Gordon Jackson, David McCallum and Sean Connery. 1957. Wow. I'm looking forward to watching this tonight.

On the FiOS front, Verizon sent us a new set top box with no reason. We hadn't requested it, and when we phoned, they didn't know why it was sent. After mulling it over, I went ahead and switched it out. Would it kill them to include an explanation? And while I was futzing about with the electronics, I changed out my dvd recorder with one that works. Now I can burn some disks and clear out the tivos!

Supernatural: An interesting ep but boy, it sure seems like a march to big, unhappy finish. Even Mom noticed. She was fiddling with her wire wrapping stuff as she watched and suddenly blurted out, "they're going to kill them both, aren't they?" I have to agree that they are laying the dramatic ground work for that but I hope it's a fake out for the viewer.

Criminal Minds: Heh heh, thank you for making my life a Cher song. *g* Very creepy. It was good to see something a little different, and Prentiss getting a little more screen time. Reid is looking very stylish. Sometimes he is geek central and other times he is sporting purple scarves and coordinated clothing. Maybe Reid has a multiple personalities??? *eg*

No Top Gear, no NCIS, no The Mentalist, no SGA.... ::::sigh::::

On the other hand, I turn the news on and instead of busting a blood vessel while Dumbshit smirks and sits on this thumbs (do you know that Bush had 77 vacations over the past 8 years?!?) I see Obama doing whatever and even if I don't quite like what he's doing, I still get a little grin because he's smart and he's got a plan and the first thing he is doing is going through the metaphorical refrigerator and throwing out all the moldy stuff. What a relief!

Oh, I also have to mention a clip they showed on the Daily Show. It showed Hillary Clinton walking through the State Dept on her first day on the job. She was surrounded by hordes of happy, applauding people. Stewart labeled it as Hillary liberating the State Dept and that is exactly what it looked like. What the hell was Condoleezza Rice doing to those people? They were all but sobbing with relief.

Yeah it does seem like they are going down the road of a Dean and Sam showdown with both of them dying. Although I'm not surprised since I doubt that Dean at least can live with what has happened to him and Sam by ignoring everyone's advice is heading down the dark path. I've been figuring this is where we were going from about the beginning of Season 2, so I'm sort of prepared.

Criminal Minds was interesting but I'm sort of confused by the ending. Brothers? Unless she gave one of her sons to others, the father of the kid they showed at the end was too old for her to have had him herself. I'm confused...

On CM, I was surprised the Romani (sp?) family just had one son, and the second family was shown the same way. Where to the girl children go? Are the families only wanting to raise one male child? Since the second family had a mother figure, I took the term 'brother' to mean close extended family, like how 'cousin' used to mean or how inner city gangs will refer to each other as brother.

Another question would be since this people kill so efficiently to get child wives, do they kill at other times too?

I had the same thoughts. What happens if they have a girl? Do they go looking for a young boy or do they get rid of the girls somehow?

I guess using the term brother to mean any of the close extended family does make sense it just wasn't very clear.

And yeah do they kill at other times?

This may mean we will see more of the Romani which would be interesting.

It would be very cool if they revisited this group of unsubs since everyone knows there are more of them out there.

The mom was upset at the thought of killing the girl and stated they don't kill girls. But girls are born 52% of the time. Where are the girls?

Perhaps these are just plot holes. This show doesn't usually have those, though.

I hope you're wrong about the end of SPN. It would be so much like the end of Quantum Leap (Dr Samuel Beckett Never Returned Home) which completely ruined the show for me and I haven't watched it since. If they kill Sam and Dean at the end, that will totally destroy everything for me: the show, fanfic, everything. Gah.

I've added Criminal Minds to my Netflix list to start watching it.

I'm just a casual watcher; don't listen to me. I think it'd be a terrible mistake to go that way so I'm hoping they pull out a save at the last moment. It'll certainly make or brake us trusting Kripke ever again.

Do you think the show will end this year and how do you think it will end?

I hope you like CM. Just remember, you'll learn an awful lot about serial killers. It can be a bit intense but I watch for the characters.

Well, I really loved Kikkimax's two CM/SPN crossivers, and murder mysteries are high on my list of fave reads.

SPN is getting awesome ratings this season (for The CW, anyway) and since SV is the only sripted show beating them I can't see them cancelling it this season. They have nothing to take its place and none of the new shows are doing very well. So I expect Kripke to get his whole five years.

I hope it ends like SG-1: the boys driving off in the Impala to catch and kill another MotW.

I hope you're right. And besides, it's the standard for tv endings because if you end it badly, the dvd sales and rerun ratings nose dive.

They will have to sort out the angel thing. And get rid of Ruby. And let the boys end up like Bobby down the road (and why the hell did they diss Bobby in the last ep, anyway?)

I was 14 when the series aired on Disney, and fell hard for Dr. Syn.

I remember thinking even back then, and earlier, that it was kind of cool that so many Disney serials dealt with English history and English characters, and how many British character actors they used. As an adult I think it's even cooler, and I wonder if Walt had a particular reason for it. I learned a certain amount of history I might not have, in general, because of ol' Walt. I know it's PC to bash him these days as an anti-Semite and a bigot, but to this day, his premature death is the 'personality' death that has affected me the most.

I've watched one of the eps and it comes complete with Walt's introduction. It's really well done.

Yeah, Disney loved to tell tales of dramatic high adventure in exotic locations. He knew what people were attracted to.

I didn't know the all the bashable stuff about him. Anti-semite and a bigot? Huh.

One of the neurologists at the hospital is Walt's nephew. It's a small world. *g*

He did some things that I as an adult now disagree with (House Un-American Activities Committee, etc.), and we wouldn't agree with his politics now, but a lot of what has been said about him since his death came from one source, and people jumped on the bandwagon and wanted to believe it, I guess, and badmouthing Walt has snowballed ever since.
